Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

Do you ‘like’ your spouse?

I often sing my husband’s praises for all that he does. He cooks, he cleans, he does all of the nasty stuff to do with house maintenance (garbage removal, septic cleaning, etc.). He is also one of the most hands-on Dads on the planet, and our kids are better for it, indeed.

All of his virtues and positive character traits aside, I just like him. We talk throughout our day, we talk over dinner, he makes innuendos that make me laugh, we usually end the evening on the couch, cuddling and watching a show and then…well, you know.

I love that I can talk to him about anything and that we can hash out deep issues together, and I also love that we can make stupid jokes and laugh hysterically at somewhat “offside” comedians. Not only do we share the same faith, beliefs, and goals, we share the same quirky sense of humor and just enjoy hanging out together.

How about you? Do you ‘like’ your spouse, and enjoy spending time with them? Do you get the chance to, or are you drowning in babies/preschoolers?

  • I really, really like my husband but we are still very newly wed. We have however been together for nearly 8 years as a couple and I attribute that to the fact that we really do like each other and are each other’s best friend. I have great girlfriends but my husband is the one who knows me the best by far.

  • I do like my husband. We get frustrated with one another at times, but we still drive to work together, eat most lunches at work together, and spend most evenings (after son is sleeping) together too….much to the amusement of our friends at work. :-)
