Committed: The Ties that Bond
with Angella Dykstra
I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.
Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

My husband just got back from the Orange conference in Atlanta full of stories to tell and ideas that he wants to follow through on. One of those ideas is that he wants to start a blog. He even joined Twitter last week.
Prepare yourselves for the end times, people, because that is a sure sign that they are upon us.
One of the speakers wrote a book about social media and my husband read it on the plane ride home (WHO IS THIS MAN, AND WHAT DID HE DO WITH MY HUSBAND?), and he said that there are three types of people who use the Internet:
Tourists: Dabble a bit, like to be on Facebook/YouTube, aren’t bloggers. This is where he is right now.
Citizens: Have blogs, read blogs, interact with other bloggers, are part of the community. This is where I fit, I think, and where he’d like to be.
Natives: These are the bloggers who’ve been there since the beginning, before everyone and their Grandma had a blog. He thinks this is where I fit, because I’ve been at it for seven years, but I think people like Sundry and Schmutzie and Sweetney and Dooce, etc. are the true natives. They’ve been around since before there were blog hosting companies and are the pioneers.
It was interesting to hear, and I’ll probably read the book in the next little bit. I just find it so weird to hear my husband so excited about it. When I first started blogging, he didn’t get it at all, but has warmed up to it as the years have gone by. He was telling me this morning about different post ideas he had and I’m pretty sure that I was looking at him like he’d grown a second head. His first job today is to come up with a URL and he’s taking that job seriously. Crazy.
How about you? Are you a tourist, a citizen, or a native? Does your spouse blog?

I think I’m a citizen but not one that is well-established. I have a small community that I communicate with online but I don’t always try to put myself out there. Personally, I prefer it that way. My husband is more of a tourist. He checks his facebook and email occasionally (but not as often as a normal person) and he watches some youtube videos and movie trailers but that’s about it.

I think there must be another type of person who uses the internet, because my hubby isn’t even a tourist yet!!! Maybe he’s still reading the travel brochure? He isn’t on Facebook and only uses the internet to watch funny videos on You Tube and to look at cars for sale on TradeMe (our version of eBay).

i’m a second-class citizen.
i have a blog. actually, i have 2. i’m not so sure many people read either of them. (well, except gramma & grampa for my daughter’s blog)
i haven’t really made a mark.
i envy all other bloggers because you all seem to have such a great voice. the only blogs i read seem to be really good blogs! so, i guess i got really lucky in finding them.
i never get comments. or followers. but i don’t promote myself anywhere but these random little comments i leave.
i am not on FB or Twitter; and neither is my husband.
we are, however, “friends” on goodreads.com.
i think my husband started a now-defunct blog in the natives-era.
he wrote i think one to three funny posts about nothingness.
i’m pretty sure we don’t even know the address anymore.

I am a citizen, but content blogging in my small corner of the blogiverse. I blog just because it’s a creative outlet and allows me a small community of bloggers to interact with. I blog for fun, I guess. I love reading blogs, too! My husband is a tourist. He loves YouTube and he uses the internet to research stuff he wants to buy or fix. Blogs don’t interest him in the least.

Shawn has had a Twitter account for a few years now, but he never uses it . The idea was that I could update where he was and such when he was driving, but one account is more than enough for me.
I can’t see him ever having a blog of his own.
My blog may be old in some eyes, I think I started in 2004, but I barely feel like a citizen. Most days I feel like a tourist.
I’m glad I’ve gotten to know you through your blog, and have even met you a time or two in real life. It’s nice to have a community that understands you.
