A friend and I were chatting over lunch about wanting/needing a weekend away with our respective husbands. She commented that it had been far too long since they went away together — it’s been almost a year. They have a great support system and a lot of family nearby, which means that they can leave their kids in good hands and enjoy time away together.
We don’t have that same kind of support because our extended family is pretty far flung. We did manage to go to Las Vegas for our tenth anniversary two years ago, and we went to Mexico for a week five years ago, but we definitely don’t have frequent weekends (or even nights) away. We do manage to get out on a date night every two weeks or so, which is no small feat.
How about you? Do you go away together often, or is it a rare occasion?

We went away for our honeymoon. (It counts. I (we) had a kid at that point.) And we went to Warped Tour about seven months later. So … it’s been about SEVEN YEARS since we’ve been away together.
And it’s going to be a while longer, because I can’t bear to be away from my baby boy. And that’s okay. For now.

we try to have at least a weekend away every year.
it’s even worked out that the past 2 years we have had an opportunity to take a vacation (both times involved Canada!!) and we are planning our vacation up the PCH to celebrate our 10th anniversary this fall.
(i actually suggested we go to niagra fallls, canada to keep the tradition alive in our vacations…. oh well)
we don’t have many date nights, so these vacations are much needed!
however, littlegirl goes to bed at 730 so we have quiet time together whenever he’s in town most nights.
it’s so necessary!
also necessary- the yearly girls’ weekend i take with my BFF. she has a girl about the same age, so we both need a break around the same time.
