Committed: The Ties that Bond
with Angella Dykstra
I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.
Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

Many of my friends have great marriages and they attribute it to their parents. Said parents have been married for decades, have modeled great marriages, and have supported their kids in their own marriages.
My Dad has been married five times (I have eight siblings from the first three marriages) and my Mom has been married three times. That’s six divorces between them, if you’re counting.
While I don’t look to my parents for advice on how to stay married, they’ve definitely given me many tips on how to live this this thing called life. My Mom and I are estranged (long story)(she hates that I’m happily married and have great kids)(Onward!), but my Dad and his wife love on us and my kids and I am forever thankful for that. They pour into my kids (and me) as Grandparents (and parents) should.
For marriage advice and counsel, we rely on couples in our church who have been at it longer than we have, and who are making marriage look like fun. As it should be.

Well, you! This column!
Both my parents and my husbands parents have and had long and successful marriages.
I think I need some more - more people who live life a little more like us.
I have been doing some reading and reflecting recently and have come to the conclusion that instead of having comebacks, I just need to be nice. You know, treat my husband like I love him, because I do! More than anything.

My parents, for sure. They just celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary, and they are such an amazing example of what a Christian marriage should be. I feel so very blessed to have that example to follow

We had/have good examples in both our parents.
