I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.
Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.
We live in an active community, and I know a number of couples who share both marital love and a love of the same physical activities. One couple runs together and they both race. Another couple like mountain biking on rugged trails and entering mountain biking events. Yet another couple enjoys hockey and play in the same league.
My husband and I … are nothing like them.
I run three days a week, attend boot camp twice a week, and do something else on the sixth day (I’m meeting a friend to hike up a local mountain this morning). My husband hates running but will run for the sake of a good workout. We ran together once, but he has such long legs (he’s 6′2″) that he might as well have been walking next to me as I ran. He likes to go to the gym and lift weights, whereas I have no idea what to do with the gym equipment unless my boot camp instructor is at the front of the class yelling out instructions. He’s recently taken up mountain biking, but aside from helping my son on a school bike trip in the spring, I haven’t ridden a bike for the purpose of exercise in at least three years. Maybe four.
How about you? Do you and your spouse share a love of the same activities? Or do you use it as “me time”?
