Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Does your spouse make you laugh?

My husband and I are wired completely differently. I love to read and to write, he prefers picture books and cannot spell to save his life. He prefers the wilderness (hunting, fishing, etc.) and I love to spend a few days in a big city. I am the eternal optimist, and he is the eternal pessimist (or “realist”, according to him). He excels at team sports and I am a runner. You get the idea.

We have a lot in common (faith, family values, etc.) and the one thing that seems to help us the most when our differences are glaring is our sense of humor. He is a quietly funny man, with a dash of innuendo and quick wit thrown in for good measure. I have been known to have a handle on the innuendo and quick wit, with a side dish of sarcasm. We laugh, a lot, half of it laughing at how ridiculous we can both be at times when it comes to our differences.

Do you two laugh together? Who is the “funny one”, or do you share that role?
