Committed: The Ties that Bond
with Angella Dykstra
I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.
Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

The last time that my husband went away together without our kids was three years ago, to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. We went to Las Vegas — a first for both of us — and proceeded to gamble … for all of five minutes. It was an inexpensive retreat, we walked (and walked, and walked) and looked at the hotels and ate some great food and watched our first Cirque du Soleil show (O) and just enjoyed having some time, just the two of us.
My husband has been wanting to go away again, and I do too, but there are some logistics to figure out. We have airline miles to cover our flights and a friend’s family condo to rent, but there is the issue of our three children. Who is going to care for them while we’re gone?
The last time we went away, my brother and sister stayed here and manned the show. Said sister is now living in the UK, and said brother is married and living four hours away. My parents don’t live nearby and are old enough that a week (or a night) with three kids would be too much for them. My husband’s parent’s can’t do it either, so we’re trying to figure out who to entrust with keeping our kids alive.
Who watches your kids when you go away?
