Committed: The Ties that Bond

with Angella Dykstra

I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

How do you feel about Valentine’s Day?

As we all know, February 14th is fast approaching. Valentine’s Day (or Love Day, as I refer to it)(Old school The Simpsons reference, there) means that we have to buy enough Valentine’s Day cards for three different kids’ classrooms. My kids are all talking about a Valentine’s Day dance at school (I DON’T KNOW EITHER) and each of their teachers are running with the them for the entire month of February.

My husband and I never do anything for each other on Valentine’s Day. When we were haughty newlyweds, we said it was because we we romantic all year long. We didn’t need a day to remind us to show love to each other! As the years have gone by, we’re just not a fan of the commercial aspect of the day. I’d much rather go out for dinner on the 15th or 16th when it’s not busy and there are no expectations.

We do sometimes get each other a card on the official day, but that’s about it.
