Committed: The Ties that Bond
with Angella Dykstra
I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.
Check out my Work It, Mom! profile and my blog, Dutch Blitz.

My husband and I both like to eat healthy food — we only eat out on “Date Night” — and our food consumption consists of a lot of fruit, veggies, and protein. A lot of said protein comes from a local ranch (beef) as well as the deer (and bear!) my husband has hunted, harvested, and had processed by a butcher. We also have chickens; some for meat, some for eggs.
We’re doing all that we can to be sustainable.
I know that some people choose to be vegetarian and, hey. Good for you. I mean it. Other people think that hunting or butchering chickens is weird … but will buy chickens that came from origins such as those portrayed in Food, Inc. Again, good for you.
I’m not here to convert anyone, I’m just sharing what we’ve chosen to do. My husband is more than willing to hunt, harvest, and raise our food sources. My job is to cook them.
Do you and your spouse share the same views on food choices? Is one of you a vegetarian and the other not? Is one a hunter and the other … opposed? I’d love to hear about your choice, and why you made it.

we pretty much share the same views on food choices, overall.
however, due to low tolerance to certain foods, he has not eaten red meat in 8years. so, sometimes we’ll grill out salmon (which hurts my belly) for him and steak (which hurts his belly) for me.
since having littlegirl four years ago, i’ve tried to be a little more healthful. her diet is good. mine- notsomuch.
he’s not as in tuned to healthier choices for her. ie- for lunch, he automatically throws goldfish on her plate instead of carrots.
and we have a good eater (thankfully!) in fact, yesterday morning she requested carrots for b’fast. and ate them!

My husband & I have similar views about food, and we both have sensitivities to foods, so we have found a groove that works for both of us. Hubby is extremely sensitive to gluten & soy, and I can’t eat most dairy & soy bothers me as well. I’m sure you can imagine that we almost never eat out, because, where would we eat?
We have made decisions about our lives based upon the way we eat & want to feed our children. Hubby works full time for the city we live in & I work full time providing healthy, frugal & sustainable meals for our family. We grow as much of our own food as we are able on our lot, & I forage for many foods and herbs around town. We have definitely given up other things, like ‘entertainment’, to have this lifestyle, but we are both confident that our good health is worth the sacrifice.
