Committed: The Ties that Bond
with Angella Dykstra
I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

Did you know that Facebook has decided to ramp up their privacy-invading tactics by creating a ‘couples page’ for anyone who has listed themselves as being in a relationship? They have. And they’ve already filled it out for you, complete with statuses and photos that you are both tagged in. Still don’t believe me? I didn’t believe it when I first read about it, either. And then I clicked on the link.
And there we were! Just the two of us! How cute! And TOTALLY WEIRD.
I read all about it on Yahoo! Shine.
The new couples pages are actually extensions of the current friendship pages that were rolled out more than two years ago, populated with existing content — photos and conversations in which you were both already tagged, lists of mutual friends and things you’ve both already liked, all arranged in the “timeline” format. But what’s bothering users is how insufferably cute the pages seem and, for some, how very invasive they can be, since you can’t opt out of them or delete them.
You can’t opt out of them or delete them! SUPER.
I love my husband, and I have no problem about people seeing how we interact online, but this just seems a little sketchy to me.
What do you think about Facebook’s new couples page?

I haven’t even looked at “our” couple page yet but I tell ya, it sounds awfully creepy to me. Can we opt out of it by making our Relationship Status “hidden”, I wonder? I may just be inclined to REMOVE my relationship status since that may be the only way around it. My husband never, ever goes on FB anyway and all of our activity would be mine.

Um, no. Just no. Does it follow your security settings? What is you and your hubby have slightly different settings - then whose is in charge? Because of where I work, I tend to want/ need tighter security. Any feedback on this issue?
Thanks!

Huh - you have this with any person you are friends with - I have a page with me and my sister-in-law…

I wish somebody would show me how to see the pages. My hub never goes on FB ( and has a cell phone that is JUST A PHONE DAMMIT).

OK, I just peeked at our couples page, and I kind of love it. I’m assuming no one else is going to be interested in it, and it’s not any info that wasn’t already available publicly.
