I'm a mom of three, a professional accountant, and an amateur photographer and writer. I am not a marriage expert. But my husband and I take "Til death do us part" seriously, and here I'll be sharing how we keep our marriage strong while we both do that insane work-life juggle.

13 ways to stay married for 13 years

My husband and I celebrated thirteen years of marriage yesterday. We’re no experts, but here are a few things that have helped us get to here.

1. Always kiss goodbye.

2. Say I love you when you kiss goodbye, and also say it randomly.

3. Laugh together, often and much.

4. Talk about what is bugging you, before it festers and boils into something more than it needs to be.

This coming Monday, my husband and I will celebrate thirteen years of marriage. Thirteen! Our wedding day seems like it was yesterday and a very long time ago, all at the same time. Our family has morphed from just the two of us to having three kids, two dogs, two cats, and one hundred chickens. Crazy.

It’s my eleventh (!) wedding anniversary today. We’re going to spend it…working. It’s all for a greater cause - Saturday consists of an afternoon of wine touring, capped off with dinner and a movie. No, we are not going out on our actual anniversary, but Saturday will mean that we are work-free, which will make it one billion times better.

My sweet husband told me to watch this video of a wedding proposal and I knew that I had to share it with you guys. Click on that link and enjoy.

Happy Anniversary/Weekend/Life, my friends.

How do you celebrate your anniversary?

One week from today, my husband and I will celebrate our eleventh (!) wedding anniversary. Last year was our tenth anniversary (obviously) and we spent four (gamble-free) nights in Las Vegas to celebrate. We walked along the strip (and walked)(and walked some more) and sat by the pool and saw our first Cirque du Soleil show (O) and shopped and went to Fremont Street and sat by the pool and went to the piano bar at Harrah’s and took a thousand photos and, oh. It really was lovely.

Where do you go to “get away”?

I mentioned a few weeks back that my husband and I were about to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary. Last Thursday (May 20th) was the Big Day. We spent the bulk of it en route to the destination we had chosen to celebrate this momentous occasion: Las Vegas.

Neither of us had ever been and we spent our days walking (and walking and WALKING) and taking in the sights. Many photos were taken, many meals were enjoyed, many memories were made. We’ve been home less than a day, so the high of a getaway is still fresh.

Where did you meet your beloved?

My husband and I are mere days (DAYS) away from our tenth anniversary (and corresponding first! trip! ever! to Las Vegas) and we’ve been reminiscing about how it all started.

We both attended a large church and had chatted a few times at the weekly College & Career evening. I couldn’t find the friends I was supposed to sit with, he showed up with his sister and I asked if I could join them. Harmless flirting led to a phone call that afternoon (by me) which ended with me leaving the lamest voice mail message ever to occur on planet Earth.

He returned my call minutes later (After calling both his Mom and sister) and before the day was out I had been to his house for a lovely dinner of homemade lasagna and we had three dates booked in the coming weeks. One month to the day after that first date, we were engaged and five months after that, we were married.

Back to the beginning of the story - how/where did you meet your beloved? I’d love to hear it.

Do you do “traditional” anniversary gifts?

My husband and I are coming up on our tenth anniversary (!) which has led me to wonder what we should do to celebrate such a momentous occasion. We’re hoping to get away for the weekend (Maybe Vegas! For the first time! We don’t gamble, but we do like tigers).

Whilst pondering such a great milestone, I wondered about the “traditional” gifts. I know that one of the years are paper, and one of them is wood and, well, I really had no clue as to what the annual gifts were supposed to be.

Thanks to About.com, I have been schooled in anniversary gifts. They have the 1st through 100th (WOW) wedding anniversary gifts listed.

The traditional gift for the tenth anniversary is tin. The modern gift is diamonds. Hook. Me. Up. I think it’s time to start playing the anniversary gift game, if only to give us some creative ideas.
