Cornered Office

with Mir Kamin

I'm a freelance writer and mother of two working from home, which theoretically means I can set my own schedule so as to best accommodate my family. In reality, "flexible hours" often equals "working too much." Yes, I'm my own boss; no, that doesn't mean life is easy. It's hard to leave the office when you live there. But I love what I do and feel very lucky. And not just because I get paid to work in my pajamas.

casual-friday.jpgCasual Friday with Mir—because some days are made for wearing your jeans and surfing the blogs.

Some of you may recognize this feature—up until today, I was writing it over on Nataly’s blog every week. Well, we were talking the other day and Nataly said “Why aren’t we putting this over on Cornered Office?” and I said “Huh. I can’t remember.” So, um, SURPRISE! Now I’ll be doing it right here every week.

(Try to contain your enthusiasm.)

For those of you who are new to Casual Friday, here’s the deal: We all know that regardless of how busy you are, Fridays require just a little bit of slacking. It’s inevitable, right? And as long as you’re sliding into the weekend, you may as well pair those comfy jeans of yours with a few new blogs to explore and maybe a few online shopping deals. I’m just sayin’.

Ready? Top off your coffee and let’s get to it.

Do you think your neighbors are unbearable? Do you enjoy a good mystery? I cannot decide if this post is simply hilarious or deeply disturbing. At the very least, I’m less bothered by my own neighbors, now.

These Storm Troopin’ photos are a Flickr set, not technically a blog, but every photo has a great story written beneath. (Thanks to Fussy for that one, which I have since sent to every Star Wars fanatic I know.)

Have you been following Jen Lemen’s tales of her time in Rwanda? If you only read one, go read The Things Goreth Holds. Right now.

If you’re considering getting a first-time Brazilian wax, you probably shouldn’t read this. (But if you want a laugh, definitely go read it.)

* * * * *

Ready to shop? Well what a coincidence—I just happen to have a few deals right here.

Faithful readers know I am all about the Amazon Friday Sale. Where else can you find such an eclectic mishmash of bargains every single week? Nowhere, that’s where.

If you’re sprucing up the house, one of my favorite lesser-known spots for great home deals is Home Decorator’s Outlet, and if you go through that link there, you’ll automatically receive $20 off your $125+ order through June 15th, 2008. They’re having a big sale right now, and most notably they have a huge selection of dirt cheap (yes, that is the technical term) lighting fixtures, if you’re in the market.

Been waiting for the “right time” to pick up that DVD you’ve been wanting? It’s here! Right now at Deep Discount—which already had the lowest prices around and always free shipping—you can use coupon code DDAF to take another 20% off your order. They do a coupon just a few times a year, and I’ve learned to wait for it and then stock up.

Still looking for that perfect Father’s Day gift? Right now at Jos. A. Bank they’re offering up to 70% off Father’s Day Specials and automatic free shipping on every order. (Hey, 70% off makes their stuff… reasonable.)

And… that’ll do it for me. Go forth and enjoy your Friday!
