I finally got reading glasses so can get back to reading to stay up on my industry and to try to get through a book again.
Yes, sad but true: my eyesight is starting to fail. I wasn’t sure why I was struggling getting through a page of text because the changes are so slight but really affecting my ability to see words on a page clearly. But let’s move on…
Here are some books that I really have enjoyed and that have helped me in my business.
These are perfect last minute holiday gift for an entrepreneur you know…or for you! Some are newer books while others have been around for at least a decade and still ring true.
Lynne Franks put together an incredibly creative, artistic and soulful book to help women explore their business ideas.
Part inspirational tome, part workbook, there are plenty of exercises that will spark ideas and may even change your way of thinking about business and how your business ideas intersect with your life.
Lynne reminds me a bit of Anita Roddick (and not just because she is British). When I met her, she impressed me as visionary, spunky, and very smart.
This tried and true business book (translation: older - from 1995) is not specifically about women and business.
In fact, I can’t even recall any of the entrepreneurs profiled in it being female offhand, although one of the co-authors is female (Kate Ludeman).
Regardless, this book really opened my eyes to purpose behind a business. What drives you? What is your higher business purpose?
And it looks at very successful entrepreneurs and reveals the deeper meaning, heart and soul that they infuse into their work.
This book brings you from corporate life to entrepreneurial life.
I really like the author Ginny Wilmerding - she is so smart about women and business issues.
If you aren’t yet an entrepreneur and are looking to make the leap from a cushy, comfy corporate position, this book addresses the issues you might face and how to tackle them head-on.
Empowering and how-to oriented.
Another one of those “find your purpose in work” books. I have to admit, I can never get enough of that topic.
Staying true to oneself is key to being able to enjoy the success of your efforts. And finding value beyond the dollar…priceless.

Hi Aliza,
In reading this post, I just knew I had to tell you about my new fav business book “The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann. Within it are five secrets that can help you tap into your true business potential. The themes include adding value to people’s lives, service, and generosity of spirit. It’s written as a parable and the simple messages are very powerful. I’m sure I’ll read it over and over through the years.
Happy Holidays! Thanks for the book list — I’ll be sure to check them out, too.
Cheers,
Linda
