Entrepreneur and business blogger, Faryl Robin Morse of Farylrobin Footwear, is a devout yogi and received inspiration for her spring footwear collection from a yoga retreat to Mexico. The outcome was a collection of shoes that “blend tranquility with attitude - the bright colors and prints of Mexico, mixed with the Faryrobin hallmarks of comfort and style.”

The Farylrobin staff is comprised mostly of women and Faryl encourages their empowerment by serving as a mentor and role model. She is also a mother of two small children, so between her personal and professional life, it’s imperative that she maintains a spiritual balance, which yoga helps her do.

What exactly is a board of advisors?

A board of advisors is not a formal and controlled as a board of directors. The latter is formed as part of the incorporation process and the directors deal with all aspects of a business, including legal issues. Advisors are more like “turbo mentors” and tend to be on hand for smaller businesses that don’t have a lot of varied in-house expertise.

Like many entrepreneurs, I have a company of one. But when it comes to the behind-the-scenes of my business, I’m not alone. Sure, I work solo at my dining room table or sitting up in bed with my laptop on my lap, but I have several key people on my team who take care of the things that I don’t want to handle. Truth be told, I wouldn’t even know how to handle what they do.

So who are the members of my dream team?

First, there’s my lawyer. I didn’t even want to attempt to incorporate my company without her. Paperwork and forms are not my cup of chai. For under $1000, her firm set up my corporation, developed the shareholders agreement, issued stock, and compiled the Corporate Book which is an actual book containing our corporate papers and board meeting minutes.
