It’s a little late to be writing a Halloween post, since I’m sure most highly organized people have been aware of the impending holiday for weeks and have dutifully prepared in a variety of ways, but since I am definitely NOT one of those people and my only Halloween-related activities to date have involved 1) visiting a pumpkin farm, and 2) purchasing and devouring a large bag of “fun-sized”chocolates (note: it’s only really fun if you eat at least seven, anything less is what I would call a tease), I thought I’d run through some cool holiday-related wares I’ve seen lately. Fellow procrastinators, just remember the magical phrases “expedited shipping”, and even better, “last-minute discounts”!

DVD: It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. I just ordered this from Amazon yesterday, because who doesn’t love this Peanuts classic? I remember looking forward to watching it every year as a kid. *happy sigh*.

Halloween window panels. I’ve bought these types of things in the past but this looks like a particularly cool selection. I REALLY like the mummy.

LEGO 3D pumpkin pack. Got an extremely patient, focused kid? Or maybe you’d just like to fill up all those extra hours of free time you have on your hands (BAH!). At any rate, this LEGO set is awesome.

Babystyle costumes. Last chance to pick up an adorable costume from Babystyle, and they’re offering some pretty good discounts. I wish I wasn’t 100% positive my own child would have an aneurism if I stuffed him in this, because aww. Who’s a prehistoric, man-eating death machine? You are!

Hilarious dog costumes. Of course, if your kid won’t cooperate, you could always humiliate your dog instead. “Your pup will love dressing up like a dinosaur!” Ha ha ha ha haaaaaaa! Yeah, right.

Book: Extreme Pumpkins: Diabolical Do-It-Yourself Designs. Want to carve a pumpkin so horrific the entire neighborhood shuns you for at least a year? Extreme Pumpkins has several wonderfully gruesome ideas.

Reproduction Victorian Halloween fabric block prints. I’m not sure what I would do with these, but boy are they neat: vintage greeting card/postcard art printed on fabric.

Silhouette tealight holders. I am a huge fan of Illuminations’ Halloween products. Check out these cute tealights, they’re 75% off at the moment.

Snow Village® Halloween collectibles. I must be losing my damn mind, because I am sort of in love with these ridiculously expensive village collectibles. I’m starry-eyed over the idea of getting them out each year and letting my kids help set them up, and marveling at their cunning little lighted designs. Then again, I do not own a goose who craps golden eggs on a daily basis, so maybe this little fantasy will have to wait for a post-lottery win indulgence.
Halloween is one of my very favorite holidays, it has to do with a love for all things horror-related and also a deep, unwavering affection for candy in its many shapes and flavors. I particularly like the creepy/fun décor that’s available this time of year, and there’s a part of me that wants to be that family who goes all out at Halloween with, you know, zombies and freshly-dug graves and dry ice in the front yard and everything. Then again, as noted I’m a lazy so-and-so and right now our most Halloween-y home decoration is the giant pile of mud-caked pumpkins just sort of . . . sitting on the living room floor. Maybe we’ll get around to carving them this week. Maybe.
If you have any cool Halloween finds to share, let me know!

Great stuff! I love those villages too but you’d have to spend your life savings to make a really cool one.

I got a babystyle costume last year. I was going to get the peacock this year but in the toddler size it doesn’t have pants, just tights, so my husband vetoed it. Who knew it would be practically 90 degrees in the northeast in October? We ended up with the turtle costume from Leaps and Bounds instead.

Halloween rocks my pumpkin-themed socks! My husband and I have vowed that when we have kids we’ll be the cool parents who throw Halloween parties for all their friends. Wishful thinking is what my friends with kids say!
I love, love, love the Charlie Brown holiday DVDs. But I had no idea until I ordered them a couple of years ago that they were so religious-themed! I guess I never paid attention to that when I was little. I’m not religious now, but I still love them.
p.s. I wasn’t sure on which blog of yours to ask this, but I have request for your recommendations. My sister as well as several of my friends and colleagues are expecting wittle bebes in the upcoming months, so I’m trying to figure out what to get them for the many showers I’ll be attending. I don’t know anything about baby supplies and can never figure out if I should go with a practical or whimsical gift. I’ll be spending quite a bit on my sister and…less than…on my colleagues. Do you have any suggestions?

LURVE the villages! We have them for both Halloween and Christmas.. due to a roommate moving out and leaving them behind. (SCORE, I know.) It’s become a huge part of my Christmas tradition now, and we’ve all decided (as we add to the collection) that the tackier, the better!

Um… we’re one of those fanatical families that decorate like mad and turn the front yard into a graveyard. I have fencing and skeletons and a zombie corpse. Halloween is my absolute Favorite holiday. I mean, who the hell wouldn’t love to creep out the neighbor kids with freshly dug graves? Or is it just me?

My child (almost 3) totally VETOED the cute tiger costume I got for him (him having opinions on clothing is a new thing) and I ended up with the shark costume after approval. He refuses to take it off. Luckily I can return the tiger as I never took the label off! I must say it is pretty awesome to have a baby shark running around the house. I should have known he’d like it, he is abnormally interested in sharks and we spend many minutes a day watching (non gross) shark videos on youtube.

Really cool ideas (especially the tea lights). I always shop the Target sales on November 1.
Our puppy girl was/will be a lobster. She just LOVED us for that.
