Back-to-school gear: lunch boxes

Back-to-school preparation isn’t something that’s particularly on my radar yet since my kids are still mostly in the Anklebiter Stage of childhood, but I’ve been hearing a rumor that this most glorious time of year is fast approaching.

With schoolgear in mind, today’s post features some cool lunch boxes I’ve found recently. If you’re looking to branch out from the tried-and-true paper bag, here are some excellent alternatives:

Alien Invasion Lunch Tote. Insulated lunch bag with zipper and handle, mesh divider pocket inside and thermos strap. $22

Build a Lunch Box Kit. Plain metal lunchbox that comes with a sticker book so kids can decorate it themselves. $13.95

Personalized Lunch Box. Child’s name is embroidered on the front, box is made from polyester with a nylon lining. Comes with reusable cold pack and plastic sandwich container. $24.99

Insulated Animal Lunchbox. Made from insulated PVC, comes in various animal designs. $15.20

Insulated Lunch Sack. Insulated sack with outer pockets. $6.99

Custom Photo Lunch Boxes. Metal lunchbox imprinted with your kid’s favorite photo. $35 for a single photo, $45 for a second image on the other side.

Lunchopolis Boxes. Each insulated box contains 4 reusable containers and a polycarbonate water bottle. $31.95

Munch Boxes from Hoohobbers. Insulated soft box with cotton exterior and nylon lining, can be personalized with embroidery, tons of cute designs to choose from. $30-$50

Zojirushi Mr. Bento Lunch Jar. Much-loved bento jar with four food bowls (for those amazing lunch creations you’re surely producing every day). $50

Well! Now I kind of want my OWN lunch box. Tell me, what does your kid use for lunch transportation?

  • My boy has a Spiderman lunchbox and a soccerball shaped one that he got from his coach.

I am digging the Much Box (sounds naughty!) for myself.

  • Oh, thank you for this - my daughter announced the other day that she needs a “very cool” lunchbox for September. I am going to show her these and see which one fits the bill:)

  • Wow, I remember lunch boxes being smelly crusty Strawberry Shortcake contraptions with dangerous metal thermoses. We’ve come a long way, baby.

  • Oh…I still have my Strawberry Shortcake thermos! *swooooon*

This year the kid has an insulated bag and a laptop lunchbox. Knowing how things go in our house, she’s gonna need two. And esp since I know I often forgot my lunchbox at school when I was lil.

  • My son has a racecar. I’ve been looking at the laptop lunchboxes. Has anyone used them? It’s like a bento but only about $20. I’m looking for myself as well.

  • We use the laptop lunch (http://www.laptoplunches.com/) set for my daughter and she loves it. I swear once we started using it, she actually started eating her lunch.
