Great Etsy finds for children’s artwork

I’m sure some children’s rooms are perfectly decorated to be a magical fairyland of wonder and joy, but in our house the kids’ rooms just seem to be cluttered repositories for toys, books, piles of clothes — both laundered and dirty — and the lingering nose-assaulting remains of poopy diapers. There’s some artwork on the walls, but not much. The vibe is less Pottern Barn Kids and more . . . well, Messy Storage Area Where the Highchair is Stuffed in the Corner and a Box of Outgrown Clothes Gathers Dust.

I love the idea of a kid’s wall hung with wonderful artwork, though. Maybe someday I’ll decorate our boys’ rooms more than they currently are. Or maybe I’ll just keep a dreamy collection of kid’s art bookmarks along with my folders of gourmet kitchen appliances, built-in wooden bookshelves with integrated library ladder, and marble bathroom vanity tops.

If you like collecting things from Etsy artists — and who doesn’t? — here are some amazing prints that would be perfect for a nursery or little kid’s room:

Sewn art, prints, and notecards from The Flashbulb; I especially love this piece.

Barking Bird’s sweet illustrations of cheery little animals.

Fall Down Tree’s lovely, whimsical prints.

Beautiful paintings and mixed media from Rachel Austin.

Katie Endle offers bright and colorful collages.

Zukzuk’s shop has some great illustrations, I’m particularly fond of these bears.

I love Papermoth’s modern, abstract pieces — there’s a huge variety in this shop.

John W. Golden’s gorgeous artwork, including some truly awesome robot prints and the not-to-be-missed By Order of the Management set.

What’s hanging on the walls in your kids’ rooms?

  • The theme in Lola’s room is rock ‘n’ roll in black ‘n’ white.

So we have b/w prints of Lennon, Springsteen, some prints of montages…she’s 2 1/2 and knows Tina Turner, Eric Clapton, Janis Joplin, etc.

I like the theme because it’s easy to work in pops of color without committing to a color scheme per se. Most excellent for lazy parents.

  • theblackapple’s prints are GREAT. I have 4 prints in heavy black frames for my seven year old girl’s room - Quick, easy - fit 8×10 premade frames…gorgeous and unusual.

  • WOW, just what I was looking for. I already loved etsy, but I thought of it more as a jewelry-for-mom place. I just ordered prints for both my son’s and my daughter’s rooms, and I know they will absolutely love them!

  • You might think this is crazy but we have a ton of art we’ve been collecting so we’ve appropriated the wall space in our kid’s rooms for display. Among the less expensive pieces we’ve also hung a couple of Valerie Butters paintings. (http://www.valeriebutters.com/)

We may reconsider when the kids are a bit older and roaming with markers (and taller!), but so far our 2 1/2 year old knows that she is to “never, never, never” touch the art hung on her walls. She has a chalkboard wall she can use if she feels like getting creative on a vertical surface.
