Favorite candies

Last night I dreamed I got an AWESOME IDEA for a Milk and Cookies post: CANDY BARS. I could talk about CANDY BARS. So this morning when I went to my desk to write, I was remembering that I had a post idea ALL LINED UP. Let’s see, what was it, what was it…? …Oh.

However, I am running with it. I am fond of candy. I won’t write about candy BARS, though (except one special kind); I’ll do the candy I ask for on my wish lists.

Dilettante Bing Cherries. The photo is from Amazon.com but don’t buy them from there—that price is silly with shipping. I find them at Wallllllmart, or sometimes I see them at Home Goods or Marshalls or TJ Maxx.

See’s Candies Butterscotch Squares (photo from Sees.com). I used to have to do the custom-order box to get these, but now they’re available as a Single Flavor Favorite. That knocks a few dollars off the price, but there’s still the shipping to pay. NEVERTHELESS, they’re consistently on my wish list.

Ferrero Rocher Hazelnut Chocolates. Photo again from Amazon.com, and this time I’m not sure if that’s a decent price or not because I never EVER buy these for myself. Okay, once, when I found a smaller box at 75% off at Target. But usually NEVER. I’m setting these up with my kids as Mother’s Favorite Chocolates, so that when I am elderly and they feel guilty about not visiting/calling/texting more often, they will send me box upon box of these. Are you familiar with the goodness that is Nutella? These are FILLED WITH NUTELLA.

Lindt filled bars. Photo from Amazon.com, but I buy them at the Lindt store when they go on a “buy 3 get 1 free” sale. OH they are so delish. I like the raspberry and the orange and cherry; I haven’t yet been bold enough to try the pistachio.

Traverse Bay Chocolate-Covered Dried Cherries (photo from Amazon.com). I mentioned these just last week, and that set off such a craving I ordered a box, so I am eating them AS I WRITE.

What candies do YOU want your children to bring you in the nursing home?

  • Are you acquainted with the Mozart Kugel? If I can get my hands on some I’ll have to introduce you. It’s a chocolate ball with layers of Nutella-like stuff and a bit of green marzipan at the center.

  • Jenny- Oooo, I am NOT acquainted. Would I like the marzipan part, I wonder? I seem to remember finding marzipan icky at some point in the distant past. But perhaps that was in childhood, when I ALSO used to not like NUTS in my chocolate, and THAT’S changed.

  • I love those Lindt raspberry-filled bars. Especially with dark chocolate. Droooool.

My favorite candies are many. Sour Patch Kids, Zotz, Milky Way Dark, Snickers, Butterfinger, Skor.

    YUM.

  • YES! The See’s Butterscotch squares!! See’s also makes “Polar Bear Paws” which are peanuts in caramel, covered with white chocolate; it’s the PERFECT combination of sweet and salty!

  • One of these days I’m going to break down a buy a box of these famed chocolate covered dried cherries you keep talking about.

Very difficult choice, but I guess if I had to choose a candy to be brought in the nursing home, it would be the Lindt truffles. I like the dark/mint ones best. Remember? CHOCOLATE MINT! Is my THING!

In fact, I’m going to add that to my current Amazon wish list right now.

  • I like Skor, or Heath, or Butterfinger candy bars, but I’m assuming I can get those in the nursing home vending machines? Well, then. Hmmm. Have you ever heard of Toffifay candies? Sooo unbelievably good, and hard to find. I think I want my girls to send me THOSE.

  • Oh if my kids love me, they will bring me any kind of See’s dark chocolate covered nut candies. Don’t care what kind of nuts as long as they are slathered in See’s dark chocolate…

  • Those Ferraro Rocher (sp?) bring back such memories. They were my Grandma’s favorite special candy and whenever we had to give her something nice we’d buy her a box. And not that you want to think of it but we also served them at her memorial service. :)

You post also makes me happy to be a Californian where Sees is local (right next to Walmart a mile from my house actually). I’ve never tried that flavor and now I’ll have to :)

  • I feel like we have maybe talked before about how we are Sees twins. I have finally, after five years of marriage, persuaded my mother in law that really, more than ANYTHING ELSE SHE HAS EVER GOTTEN ME, what I really want for my birthday is a one-pound box of butterscotch squares. And now it’s what I get for every occasion. Bliss.
