I’ve been shopping for toys for my niece and nephew, and I accidentally got sucked down a Gorgeous Toys wormhole. My kids are all out of the baby/toddler-toy stage, and a LOT of their toys are UGLY and PLASTICKY. Feast your eyes on THESE riches instead:

Small Rainbow Stacker (photo from Amazon.com)

Plan Toys Balancing Cactus (photo from Amazon.com). I saw this in Ann Wyse’s gift post and SWOONED.

KID O Arranging Short to Tall Puzzle (photo from Amazon.com).

KID O Arranging Narrow to Wide Puzzle (photo from Amazon.com)

Stockmar Beeswax Block Crayons (photo from Amazon.com)

Crayon Rocks (photo from Amazon.com)

Plan Toys Stacking Tree (photo from Amazon.com)

Haba Magica Clutching Toy (photo from Amazon.com). I bought this for my baby nephew!

Kringelring Clutching Toy (photo from Amazon.com). And this!

Trix Clutching Toy (photo from Amazon.com). This was a close runner-up!

Haba Max (photo from Amazon.com). And this is so adorable I can hardly stand it!

Schylling Musical Hand Bells (photo from Amazon.com). This is what we chose for our niece. My brother is very musical so I passed the idea by him first, to make sure these were more like musical instruments than like toys, and he said they looked great. Each bell has the note stickered on to the handle, and there are little song instructions.

Plan Toys Balancing Monkeys (photo from Amazon.com). Oh, the wee round monkeys! And I still remember the scale I played with as a child.

Käthe Kruse Grabbing Ring Doll (photo from Amazon.com). Cannot. tolerate. much. more. cuteness.

Haba Sevilla building blocks (photo from Amazon.com). The price makes me die a little, but aren’t they BEAUTIFUL??
So gorgeous! We’ve tried to mostly buy our daughter these kinds of beautiful toys and it makes SUCH a huge difference in how I feel about having them in the living room- they are fun to look at and even fun for adults to play with because they’re so visually pleasing! I couldn’t find a shot of this one online (we got it at a local toy shop & I think it is locally made too), but I wanted to show you- http://flic.kr/p/9K4Tp5
It is the rainbow stacking toy on the end table.
We also have these blocks: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2o-bfqkIBys/SP90oNDI9LI/AAAAAAAABH8/jmimtG4zJ9o/s400/UG_blocks_index.jpg (sorry about the long URL) and they are entertaining in so many ways- and pretty!
Thanks for your gift guides for kids, they have helped with ideas for my daughter and my nephew!

Oooh - we have the stacking tree! My boys (almost 3 and 4) still play with it. It’s pretty no matter how they’ve stacked it or which part of the house they’ve left it.

I put those bells on my now-3-year-old daughter’s Amazon wishlist for her first Christmas and she finally got them for Christmas last year. I think I’ve played with them more than she has (the little included songsheet is nice), and all her little playmates have loved them as well. They are really authentic-feeling, will probably last forever, and just too. much. fun.

I bought the trix thing for my son when he was gnawing on everything in sight and he loved it. Now that he’s 2, he thinks it’s funny to wear it as a bracelet.
