Owl earrings

I recently bought some bird earrings, and in the comments section we started talking about how I have also been questing for owl earrings. The owl trend continues (my mom and me, while shopping: “It’s it REMARKABLE how stores are SUDDENLY CARRYING the VERY THING we SUDDENLY WANT? What a REMARKABLE COINCIDENCE!”), but I find owls a difficult thing to choose The Right One of: some are too scowly, some overly or insufficiently whimsical. So although a need for owl earrings has been created in me, my ears stay un-owled and the quest continues.

ZAD Vintage Silver/Crystal Owl Earrings (photo from Amazon.com). These are close to what I’m looking for. Good nostalgia quotient (my mom collected owls the last time the trend came around, and these are the type of owl eyes I remember), good owl feet, good basic idea. I wish there was a photo that gave me a better idea of how big they’d look on someone’s actual ears.

Sterling Silver Owl Earrings (photo from Amazon.com). I like that these have designed backs as well as fronts. But the eyes are a little too blank/ball-like.

Silver Owl Earrings (photo from jmes jewelry box on Etsy). (Here are the same ones in a bronze/gold-tone, from a different seller.) These are pretty good, and I like that style of backing. But one thing I like about Etsy is feeling like I’m buying something handmade, and how handmade is it if someone takes a pre-made charm and attaches it to a pre-made backing? And if I find the exact earrings sold by many, many Etsy sellers, I’m not sure it was even a matter of attaching the charm to the backing, but maybe more a matter of buying a large bag of owl earrings from a wholesaler and photographing them against an assortment of charming backgrounds.

Night Owl Earrings (photo from marmar on Etsy). This is more what I have in mind when I buy from Etsy, but these aren’t quite what I’m looking for in style. (You can see why this quest is…taking awhile. Never mind! The journey is half the adventure!)

Betsey Johnson Flights of Fancy Owl Stud Earrings (photo from Amazon.com). These aren’t how I would have DESCRIBED what I was looking for, but these could nevertheless be the ones. I wish they were dangly. I generally prefer dangly.

Antiqued Silver Crystal Owl Earrings (photo from Amazon). These, maybe. But their tums look kind of like they were originally going to be turtle earrings.

  • I think in the second photo, the owl’s eyes are supposed to be closed, which doesn’t make me like them more, but it does make them substantially less creepy.

I followed Sarah Lena’s link, and am now head over heels for the ceramic colored owl earrings. So cute! So round!

  • I, too, have been bitten by the Owl bug. I also remember it the first time around, mostly in the form of ceramic things my grandmother made - owl mugs, even a large ceramic owl that sat on the floor.

I recently got an owl necklace that I love (this one but there are other cute ones in this store: http://www.etsy.com/listing/109519193/owl-necklace-cameo-jewelry-fall-fashion) but I cannot find cute owl earrings. I like the first one in this post the most, but I don’t think I’d buy them. I love the marmar shop on Etsy but that’s not quite what I like either. Why are owl earrings so difficult?
