Gift ideas for a cat lover

One of my sisters-in-law loves cats and cat-related things, and I have been searching for a cat-related gift for her, so I have cat gifts ON THE BRAIN.

Chuvora Sterling Silver Cat Silhouette Earrings (photo from Amazon.com). I think these are pretty, without being too Cat Lady.

Black Cat Print Set by Kerry Beary on Etsy (photo from the shop). This is more than I want to spend, but I love them and want them FOR MYSELF. And there are a number of $20 prints I want to consider for my sister-in-law. And I’m going to go back later to browse more and put some on my own wish list too.

Cat Measuring Cups (photo from Amazon.com). According to the reviews, none of us should buy these: they’re for liquid measurement only, with a hard-to-read mark that is NOT THE TOP OF THE CUP. “Top of the cup” is how we expect to measure things, so this seems like a recipe (see what I did there?) for misunderstandings. Also, apparently the tails break off really easily, sometimes even before you’re finished paying. So don’t buy these, and I won’t either. But oh, they’re cute. And cute + useful is usually my favorite combination, so this is disappointing.

Cat & Bird Mug & Spoon Set (photo from PerpetualKid.com). She likes coffee, too! I could do this mug and spoon set, plus a bag of nice coffee.

Cat Art Print on French Dictionary Page by Frenchprints on Etsy (photo from the shop). Etsy is positively saturated with similar “image printed on old book page” items, but I’m not quite tired of them yet.

Punk Kitty Magnetic Necklace Set by Marmar Superstar on Etsy (photo from the shop). Ah! This could be my opportunity to give someone one of these necklaces that makes me wish I wore necklaces! And I could get her another magnet set or two to go with it!

Famous Faces (photo from Amazon.com). I’m glad this listing has a “Click to look inside” feature, because otherwise I think it would be hard to explain: it’s a book of animals…dressed as celebrities.

Playful Kitten Bookends (photo from Amazon.com). These would be better for someone who also loved books—but she does have SOME books, and maybe THAT’S actually better: when millions of books are crammed into a bookshelf they don’t NEED bookends.

Ivory Cat Calendar (photo from Amazon.com). There are so many highly-specialized cat calendars (entire years dedicated only to Maine Coon cats, or only to Siamese cats, or only to Tuxedo cats) that at first I thought Ivory cats were another kind of cat—but Ivory is the last name of the artist.

Ashton Sutton Four Cats Clock (photo from Amazon.com). I’ve seen the cat clock with weird eyes a million times, but had never seen this one. [I see this link has switched from the $30ish one to a $70ish one. Don't pay $70, that's silly. It only switched because the $30ish one is temporarily out of stock; you can still order the out-of-stock one from "More Buying Choices" to the right.]

Andy Warhol print: Green Sam (photo from Allposters.com). I was looking for a cat print that was cute, but that was also something that looked like a grown-up could put it up on the wall. Found it.

T.U.K. Cat Mary Janes (photo from Amazon.com). I’ve had these in my Amazon cart for…years? Has it been years? It’s because I take a half-size in shoes, and these only come in whole sizes. Sometimes I can fit in the size below or the size above, but I have to be able to try them on. And I’m not even sure I want these (these are the ones I really want, but they’re only in size 5), so I’m not ready to start ordering/returning. So there they sit, in my cart.

Metropolitan Museum of Art Cat Note Cards (photo from Amazon.com). Note cards get used up, which is nice for a recipient who doesn’t really want to add THINGS to the house.

Nick & Nora Mini Dome Satchel Set in “Crazy Cats” (photo from Amazon.com). Such things are handy.

…And even after all that, I’m probably going to dither for two weeks and then go with the same coffee-and-chocolate combination I do every year.

  • These are some fun ideas. I especially love the magnet necklace sets - too cute! I kind of want them for myself…

I know this may be too much to ask, but do you have any gift ideas for pint sized cat lovers (the late preschool/early elementary age set)? If anyone has any offhand ideas, I’d love to hear them.

  • I had a pair of TUK shoes once that I bought somewhere really cheap (like Ross on clearance or a thrift store) without trying them on…and they were too short, as in toe-at-the-very-end-of-the-shoe short. So, if you’re waffling, I’d go for the larger size. You can always put an insole in them; since they have a strap, they’ll probably stay on fine even if they’re a little big.

Also, I might need the mug. and I love the clock…the googly-eyed one creeps me out almost as much as clowns and shelf elves.
