Baby Halloween costumes—and a giveaway

Categories: Baby gear, Holiday

I’m supposed to be researching Halloween costumes for my two 3-year-olds (Amazon.com has a free shipping deal I want to take advantage of). But I keep getting distracted by baby costumes because OMG TEH CUTE.

I’m also supposed to be writing a post announcing a giveaway of two Amazon.com gift certificates, which I will definitely do in just a second.  I just have to look at these baby costumes for a few more minutes.

Seriously.  A sock monkey costume?  I don’t even LIKE sock monkeys, but this looks so snuggy I just want to SQUEEZE and maybe BITE.

It’s a small, plump, smiling, cooing Darth Vader!  Oooo, he’s so EVIL!  Evilly DELICIOUS!  Nom nom nom!

It’s a bird!  No, it is a plane!  No, it is a NOM NOM NOM.  Oops:  I nommed the superbaby all up.

You know what would be cute?  MULTIPLES wearing banana costumes.  You could tie their little tops together to make a bunch.

Aw, it is a little tulip fairy costume!  Does that CUTE BABY come with it?

Paging Dr. Baby!  We need 10cc’s of cuteness STAT!

WHO would do this to a baby?  WHO?  (Does it come in size 12-18 months?)

A Peep costume!  NOM while fresh; do not wait for staleness as with actual marshmallow Peeps!

Heart…ceasing…to beat… Please see if Dr. Baby is still in the building, or this strawberry fairy costume will be the last thing I see.

Now, about the giveaway.  It takes FUNDS to buy cute Halloween costumes, and Milk and Cookies is giving away two $25 Amazon.com gift certificates.  Well, obv you don’t have to use them for Halloween costumes, you can use them for anything you want.  Festivus presents?  It’s only 3 months away, you know.

To enter, leave a comment on this post telling us what your kids are dressing up as for Halloween.  Or what you’re dressing up as.  Or what your pet is dressing up as.  Or what you wanted to dress up as when you were a kid but your parents wouldn’t let you.  Contest deadline is Friday, October 3rd, at noon U.S. Pacific time, after which we’ll choose two winners for the gift certificates.

Update:  Winners!  Pam and Misty, you win!  My nice boss will be emailing you your certificates!  Congratulations and happy shopping!

  • My son is being a pumpkin (lame,I know) because I got his costume way before he was even born. I have a thing for pumpkins and this is, like, my dream!

  • My 6 year old will be Indiana Jones and I will be a cow for Halloween. I will also feel like a cow after I eat all of his candy.

    Eric's Mommy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

  • We want our daughter to be a mummy! (A CUTE one, of course!) She’ll most likely be walking by Halloween and how cute would she be @ 11 months toddling around in a mummy costume!! Now the hard part is finding one - or (gasp!) making it. :)

    Sarah  |  September 30th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

  • A pink bunny! I found it at a children’s second hand store.

    Anonymous  |  September 30th, 2008 at 12:22 pm

  • oops-forgot to sign. The last post was mine.

    ramseyquipp  |  September 30th, 2008 at 12:23 pm

  • I’ve got a dinosaur, witch, and Snow White at my house.

    Linda  |  September 30th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

  • I’ve got two choices, depending on what fits and the weather that day. There is a local Halloween parade…

Either Dorothy of Oz, if the dress from her birthday still fits - I just need ruby slippers…

    Or

A Princess. (I bought a dress at a yard sale.

    Di  |  September 30th, 2008 at 12:46 pm

  • My son will be Indiana Jones and my daughter will be a cow girl. If I dress up, I will be a witch.

    divrchk  |  September 30th, 2008 at 12:51 pm

  • my niece says she will be Abby Cadabby.
And I will wear a witch hat to work.

And I will be trying to coerce my friend to dress her newborn in that banana costume!

    diane  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:01 pm

  • Well, I *was* going to have my son dress up as a tiger (hand-me-down from a friend), but now I’m thinking he needs to be a doctor. Or maybe Darth Vader.

By the way, I love the Cookie Monster sound effects. : )

    may  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:12 pm

  • Well, crap. I was looking high and low for an original, off the beaten path costume for my 10 month old, but you featured three of my four choices here! Now everyone’s gonna be all , “Wanted to be like Swistle, huh?”.

    (Which is fine.)

You could totally make up this tragedy to me by giving me a gift card to get him a unique costume and then NOT featuring anymore.

    Sarah Lena  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:13 pm

  • Right now it’s Darth Vader (too bad my son is too big for the costume Swistle found!) and a 60’s hippie chick.

    Diane  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:15 pm

  • My husband has gotten it into our 2yo son’s head that he should be speed racer. Not sure how we’ll pull that one off!!

    aimee  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

  • “Paging Dr. Baby….” HA!

Padme Amidala, Yoda, and, making its fourth? fifth? appearance on its third child… baby ducky!

    Nowheymama  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:22 pm

  • My 2 year old daughter will be a bumble bee. Grandma bought the costume - it is SO cute, little skirt with tulle that puffs it all up.

    Christine  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:24 pm

  • wow those are cute costumes. My baby is still in my belly and will be until the end of December, but I’ve still been tempted to buy some Halloween outfits. I don’t know what I’d do with them, maybe drape them over the belly?

I will be dressing up my dog as a little devil though. And he will be cute, even if he’s miserable.

    Alexa  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

  • My daughter, 4, will be dressing up as, surprise, surprise…a princess. Seems like that’s all she talks about! The baby, 1, is going to wear a chicken costume from Old Navy. We tried it on him last night, and hoo boy did we laugh. Hilarious!

    Brooke  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:34 pm

  • I wanted to leave an idea for pregnant Alexa…I was 8 months pregnant last Halloween. My baby belly was a jack-o-lantern! I wore an orange t-shirt and cut out the face in black paper and just taped it on. It was pretty cute!

    Lydia  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:36 pm

  • That tulip fairy is too cute!

My 5 month old son will be a pumpkin (cute), my 2 year old son will be a dragon (cute) and my 5 year old daughter wants to be a bride (gag). We’re still negotiating with the 5 year old.

    Jana  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:37 pm

  • At first, I was planning on dressing my 2.5yr old up as a puppy…but then I found this ADORABLE monkey costume, and I couldn’t resist!!
For me, it’s a toss up between a witch or a pirate…I’ve never been a pirate before, and I think it might be fun. Yar :-)

    (and thanks for the giveaway!)

    Stacy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:49 pm

  • My parents thought Halloween was “of the devil,” so I wasn’t allowed to have a costume or go trick-or-treating as a kid. We would go to church instead and have a fall party. (Lame!)

We were, though, allowed to hand out candy (along with religious tracts!) to kids who came to our door trick-or-treating. When I was 8 or so, I got around the no-costumes rule by answering the door dressed up in things I found around the house. I think the best one was “Not a Morning Person:” I donned my mom’s bathrobe, put curlers in my hair, painted bags under my eyes with grey shadow, and clutched a coffee cup.

So now that I’m free to celebrate Halloween AND I have an adorable 10 month old son, I feel like he ought to get a costume, but I haven’t thought of anything yet!

    Sarcy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:50 pm

  • My son has a Buzz Lightyear, Peter Pan, and Superman costume at home…so he can choose from one of them. I’m still trying to decide what to put my one-year-old in.

    Katheryn  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:53 pm

  • My almost three year old daughter is going to be a doctor. I ordered a real stethoscope from Amazon.com which should get here today or tomorrow and we’re still looking for a doctor’s coat. When I was in the hospital after delivering our second daughter, she played my doctor. http://garcialounge.com/blog2/?p=192

We purchased some Gymboree pjs off of eBay so that our 5 month old will be her patient. They are skeleton pjs that glow in the dark! I can’t wait to see the girls dressed up! http://www.gymboree.com/shop/dept_item.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524445975683&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374306240682&bmUID=1222782187811&productSizeSelected=0

    Anita  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:55 pm

  • Our 12 month old triplets are going as jail birds. Complete with little striped jumpsuits. We’re thinking of decorating the wagon as jail cells…. Hopefully it’s as cute as it looks in my head. :)

    Gretchen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:57 pm

  • My two year old will be dressing up as Peter Pan this year!

    Jennifer  |  September 30th, 2008 at 1:57 pm

  • My son is 20 months old and will be going as an octopus, his favorite animal. :-)

    Carrie  |  September 30th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

  • I very much wanted to dress up my 4 mo. old niece as a banana.

    ladyloo  |  September 30th, 2008 at 2:07 pm

  • My granddaughter is all about the Tinkerbell this year.

    Karen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 2:35 pm

  • Maggie is the sock monkey! Yeahhhh, she made your cool list! :)

    Go see, go see!!!

  • we keep trying to get my 2 year old interested in dressing up. so far it’s my husband who is very excited at the thought of dressing up as a chicken, or darth vader, or a dinasour, etc. the boy? not so much. he basically said ‘no’ to dressing up. So maybe the card will come in handy for um buying more candy?

    Kate  |  September 30th, 2008 at 2:51 pm

  • Is it bad that i start planning for Halloween in July but, put off any Christmas planning until mid December?
This year the girl has decided she wants to choose her own costume (darn 3 year olds!) so I don’t get much say, she has narrowed it down to a “spotted kitty” or princess Belle =o\

    Dawn  |  September 30th, 2008 at 2:56 pm

  • N will be Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) and A will be Little Red Riding Hood.
They both look so darn cute! I had the hardest time deciding.

    Vicci  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:00 pm

  • When I was little I wanted to be anything but a witch, since my parents didn’t have any money, but they did have a witch costume. So I was a witch for 4 halloweens. 4!!

    Mary  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:17 pm

  • I want my 7 month old niece to be that Tulip Fairy…but I bet her mom would SO go for that Sock Monkey!

    Melissa  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

  • The Bug will be dressed as a dragon, once again. Luckily that is what he wants.

    kellylynn  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:23 pm

  • my son is going to be dressing up as a monkey, although so far he has completely rejected the costume as an evil instrument of constraint and will not wear the feet or the hood so he just looks like a very fat baby in a brown sweatsuit.
i’m hoping i can get my husband to dress as an ape as well and send them out to halloween parties while i sit at home eating all the candy.

    becky  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:28 pm

  • My kids will be a princess and a knight- DS has been wearing his knight costume ALOT since hubby bought it a few weeks ago.

    Blondie  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:32 pm

  • My almost 12 year old son wants to be a pimp. Ugh! But - good news….a pimp has no blood or weapons - so it is almost freighteningly better than the choices of his past few years.

My 5 year old wants to be - wait for it - a pimp too! She has no mind of her own. Never mind that mom keeps reminding her how! much! fun! it is to be a cheerleader or princess. Cross your fingers for me.

And the 1 1/2 year old - well we are just slapping an elmo costume on her. Why? Because I will do anything, and I mean anything, to encourage who newfounded passion for running around the house screaming “ELMO! ELMO! ELMO!” Clearly, I’m easily ammused.

But damn is it expensive to buy 3 costumes. Now I know why my mom always wanted me to be a ghost (using old bed sheets) or better yet a hobo - her world (using my dad’s old clothes and some dirt fron outside).

    Diana  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:51 pm

  • A pirate!

    Liz  |  September 30th, 2008 at 3:54 pm

  • My nephew was going to be a puppy but I might have to buy that sock monkey costume instead. Too cute!

    Kristen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:01 pm

  • My 2.5 year old is going to be a bumble bee, and her 6 mo. old little sister is going to be a flower. I’m so excited for Halloween with two cute little monsters this year! =)

    Jennie  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:06 pm

  • My 3 year old son and his older cousin are dressing up as Power Rangers. They’ve been practicing their super powers a lot lately.

    Leslie  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:08 pm

  • I SO wanted to be a mermaid for Halloween when I was in the 2nd grad and my mermaid obsession was full blown. I could not convince my parents that hauling me around in a red wagon (so I could be authentic! No walking for mermaids) sounded like a good idea.

    Tanya  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:15 pm

  • The expressions on our mini American Eskimos look just like that dog in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, so they’ll be getting one-horned reindeer antlers. Our Husky gets to be a “wolf” to go with my Red Riding Hood outfit.

    leanne  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

  • My daughter and I went out this weekend and bought her Halloween costume. She’s going to be a butterfly/fairy… thing. Who cares what it is, tutu + wings = cute!!

    Cindy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:36 pm

  • Our girl would like to be a lion… still working on finding a costume for her! Her “roar” is very, very cute!!

    mrsgryphon  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:40 pm

  • When I was younger, I always dressed up as a witch. Now that I’m an adult and can really be WHATEVER I want–I’m still stuck on the witch costume! I guess I’m not that creative!

    Jen B.  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:50 pm

  • My 1-year-old will be the Cheshire Cat, and I’ll be Alice. I don’t feel at all bad about the hours I spent this summer making his costume, because it’s the one time all year that little boys’ clothes get to be cute. Yay!

    Wonderland Mom  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:52 pm

  • My best Halloween costume as a child was an elephant that I made out of a paper bag. I spent the entire 2nd grade checking out library books on elephants so that it would be just right.

    BeccakBecca  |  September 30th, 2008 at 4:57 pm

  • Well, Bud is being Jimmy Johnson, the race car driver, Lucy is being either a witch, princess Jasmine, or Snow White, she can’t decide. And Olivia is being Minnie Mouse. I was always a hobo or a gypsy as a kid.

    Saly  |  September 30th, 2008 at 5:01 pm

  • The kid’s going to be a frickin’ unicorn. Sheesh.

    Corey  |  September 30th, 2008 at 5:10 pm

  • My daughter is being a witch, much to my surprise. I thought she’d want to be a princess again. My son will be a cowboy, in a cute costume I got at a garage sale!

    Kristin H  |  September 30th, 2008 at 5:33 pm

  • I have three boys ages 8,5, and 2 years old. I have NO CLUE what my eldest & youngest will be dressing up as. My middle child has expressed interest in being a policeman this year.

    Heather R.  |  September 30th, 2008 at 5:36 pm

  • Alex is going to be 2 years old in December and as a single mom we’ve learned to be a team since we’ve been on our own (when he was 4 months) This year we will be dressing up as Power Ranger Blue and Power Ranger Pink.

    Lissetth  |  September 30th, 2008 at 5:37 pm

  • My four year old selected a Jeff Gordon (NASCAR driver) costume this year. It’s a cheap looking jumpsuit, but he looks adorable in it, and he has been wearing it every day since we bought it. His cutest costume ever was a fleece dalmation costume that he wore when he was one- totally unbearable cuteness!

    eve  |  September 30th, 2008 at 5:49 pm

  • My sweet 2 year old is going to be a doctor. She’s wearing pink scrubs, a white lab coat and carrying the cutestest little doctor’s bag! I can’t wait!

    Kristen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 6:06 pm

  • My son will wear the dog costume my daughter wore last year. My daughter will be a “princess” -type lameness, wearing the Target princess dress my mom got her for her birthday that she has worn to church every single Sunday since July.

    Liza  |  September 30th, 2008 at 6:23 pm

  • My 6 year wants to be Hannah Montana. My 4 year old will be Ben 10. And my 2 year old is going to be a little devil. Very fitting.

    Missy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 6:26 pm

  • Ohh…my 9 month old is going to be a turtle. Which maybe sounds kinda boring, except he’s new to CRAWLING. So….FUN, yes? :)

    Mel H.  |  September 30th, 2008 at 6:34 pm

  • *I* will likely be a nun… and I’m pregnant. So, total BRILLIANCE, right? RIGHT? And I’ll burn in hell for all eternity to boot!

My almost 3-yr-old wants to be a dinosaur. NOT like Barney, though. (wheeew!) The costume is more Land Before Time.

    Sara  |  September 30th, 2008 at 6:47 pm

  • The Boy going to be a monkey for Halloween. I found a great costume at old navy that has a banana in a pocket on the leg of the costume. Too cute.

He also became a pumpkin for an autumn party we throw every year. We had a baby pumpkin patch.

    Hillary  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:02 pm

  • Goodwill white bed sheets with holes cut out and we are a family of ghosts! Unless we stumble upon Amazon gift certificates and then we can do something real! :)

    ML  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:08 pm

  • I am working on making my son a “royal knight” costume. I hope it turns out OK. It’s a cute idea, and he liked it too. Plus, it involved a play sword. What 2 year old boy could say no?

    Mommy Daisy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:12 pm

  • My son is going to be a dog and my daughter will be Ariel. Not sure what I am going as…..

    Chris  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

  • My girlie will be a princess and my boy, well, he wants to be a storm trooper so that “he can have a storm trooper gun.” I’m not sure exactly how that’s going to work out.

    Bunny  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

  • My son will be a pirate!

    Jennifer B  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

  • The then 16 mo old will be a cute as can be witch (children’s place costume- a black and tulle dress- got it at the thriftstore ages ago!).

I cannot wait to scrapbook her photo and my photo from when I was 2 (hint: the one in the vintage plastic dress clutching pumpkin bucket scowling at the camera = me!)

    Deanna  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:40 pm

  • [...] Check out this contest for a chance to win one of 2 $25 gift cards at Amazon.  Try not to squee at the cute baby costumes while you are over there. [...]

    Dutch Blitz » Win A $25 Amazon Gift Card  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

  • I will be dressing up as Wonder Woman and my pup will be dressed as a cow. If I can get her to stay still long enough for me to get the costume on her.

    hillary  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:45 pm

  • Since I’ll be 7 months pregnant by Halloween, the only costume I can think of for this year is Juno. As in, that hipper-than-thou pregnant teen from the movie of the same name. If only I actually liked that movie, I’d be more excited about the idea.

    Jen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

  • My 1 year old son will be a dragon since I have a fuzzy dragon suit. My daughter wants to be Gabriella from High School Musical. I want to dress us all up characters from Word Girl! My husband even has a lab coat - perfect for Dr. 2 Brains.

    Emily  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

  • I doubt I’ll be dressing up this year, as I don’t usually have any place to go, and none of my friends are into the whole Halloween thing, but we’ll see. If all else fails, I have a fairy godmother costume from my days as an event planner to fall back on.

When I was younger, my favourite costume that I made with my mom was a present. We cut holes in a cardboard box, covered it in wrapping paper, and I wore a red bow on my head. It was a huge hit!

    Sharon  |  September 30th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

  • I always wanted to be an oompa loompa…

    rita  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:01 pm

  • My four year old is going to be Minnie Mouse, and my one year old is going to be a spider!

    Kate  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

  • Both boys want to be firemen. For the older one, that’s great, he was one last year. For the younger…well, we’ll be shopping!

    Tina  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:21 pm

  • I would like to dress up like that strawberry fairy. Do you think I’ll look as cute as her and score just as much candy?

    Laura  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:23 pm

  • My daughter is going to be a chick (as in, a wee baby chicken) and my son wants to be a golfer. *sigh* How do you even dress someone up as a golfer? Khaki pants and a polo shirt? Boring!!

Those baby costumes are SO CUTE. The strawberry fairy is particularly precious.

    nonsoccermom  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:28 pm

  • My 8 month old is going to be the cutest ladybug on the block!

    Tiffanie  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

  • I’m really really hoping to find a cheap princess costume for my 2 year old daughter. If that doesn’t work out, I will be looking for a “Monster’s Inc” costume (which is what I would actually prefer, since I can’t stand the whole “pretty pretty princess” phase!).

    Stacy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:38 pm

  • My little guy is going to be Charlie Brown from the Halloween special — you know, with the extra holes all over the ghost costume? “I got a rock!”

    Jen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:43 pm

  • I’m pregnant with my first but we’re dressing my dog (a vizsla) up as a Dalmatian. Don’t ask, it was my husband’s idea, but he’s so excited, I couldn’t stamp on his fun. We’re going to a dog park/Halloween event.

She Likes Purple  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:44 pm

  • I take Halloween VERY seriously, and now that I have a daughter I plan on passing that on to her, too!!! Anyway, for this year’s Halloween, my husband, 11 month old, my dog, and I are all dressing up…as The Flintstones!!! My husband is Fred, I am Wilma, by daughter is Pebbles, and our dog will be Dino! I can’t wait.

    heather...  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:46 pm

  • My 3 year old son will be a pirate. The costume has already paid for itself since he’s worn it numerous times since his pirate birthday party!

    Tami  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:51 pm

  • My daughter, who is due October 9th, will be a strawberry. I got the costume as a hand me down and the hat is just too precious.

    Meredith  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

  • I’m going to be Amelia Peabody Emerson, heroine of archeological/crime/spy fiction. She’s a Victorian adventuress, with Turkish trousers and a parasol! …I have to buy the Turkish trousers and the parasol still, but at least I already have the pith helmet.

    Lori  |  September 30th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

  • I’m going to be a talking doll, complete with 50’s dress and pull string. my neice is going to be a bumble bee!

    Emily  |  September 30th, 2008 at 9:11 pm

  • I have a 3 1/2 year old Spiderman (with muscles) and a 1 1/2 year old Chicken. I have this great cowboy hat that I like to use Halloween as an excuse to wear! Hmmm, maybe I should make Halloween the excuse to buy a cute pair of boots to go with it! :-)

    Lydia  |  September 30th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

  • If the costume still fits my daughter will be a pumpkin - but I should try it on her because if it doesn’t fit she is totally going to be a Sock Monkey! Thanks for the heads-up on that one!

    melanie  |  September 30th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

  • My daughter is going to be a chili pepper for Halloween this year. We’ll be flying that day, so my husband wants to dress her up for the flight in hopes that people will be overwhelmed by her cuteness and buy us the drinks that we’ll need for flying cross-country with an infant.

    Jen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

  • Am I that behind already? I have no idea what the girls ( 18months) will be. I always dress our dog as a fairy- Its the only day hes allowed to cross dress : )

    gwen  |  September 30th, 2008 at 9:55 pm

  • I need these, i am not sure what I need them for but I need them. My son will be a firefighter for Halloween, due to the current obsession, we already own everything that is required.

    Stacy  |  September 30th, 2008 at 10:06 pm

  • My daughter wants to be a dinosaur. She’s been practicing her “rawr!” for weeks now.

    Erica  |  September 30th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

  • Home-made bat (worn for the 3rd year in a row) and wolf.

    Pick me!

    JC  |  September 30th, 2008 at 10:35 pm

  • My son is going to be Spider Man and my daughter is going to be Glinda from the Wizard of Oz!

    LeAnna  |  September 30th, 2008 at 10:42 pm

  • OMG Sarcy, we could have grown up together! Now I love Halloween, it’s like forbidden fruit. 5 yr old changes her mind ALL THE TIME so we’re still trying to figure that one out. 3.5 yr old has to be a mermaid. I’m not sure how that works but there’s sure ot be an Ariel costume out there somewhere. Lucky me has a brand new baby so I get to do something super cute. All I know at this point is that it WON’T be a pea pod or pumpkin!

    St  |  September 30th, 2008 at 11:59 pm

  • Patrick is going to be Harry Potter and Josie is going to be a corpse bride. I don’t know if I’m going to be anything yet. I have an old costume, a vampire thing, but I’m SO sick of it, so I doubt I’m going to use it. I generally end up using all my ideas on the kids, anyway.

    astarte  |  October 1st, 2008 at 12:13 am

  • I work at a children’s museum and we have to wear *non-scary* costumes so as not to scare the kiddos when they come for the Halloween party.

So I am wearing a white blouse, one of Husband’s red ties, and my college graduation robe to be…

…Hermione from the Harry Potter books! Woo hoo!

    Krista  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:09 am

  • I bought a yellow tutu to glue feathers on to make a duck costume for JB, but then I saw an easy to make lamb costume -so.cute. So now I’m torn!

Our science department dresses up together…this year I’ m hearing rumblings about having our only male teacher dress up as Snow White and us gals as the 7 dwarves

    chraycee  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:15 am

  • My son will be dressing up as an almost three year old.

Le deep (Australian, non festive) sigh.

    aibee  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:16 am

  • My foster baby will be a pea pod!

    Susan  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:32 am

  • Plans are to dress the black cat as a bee and the orange cat as a pumpkin. We’re going to make a stem out of an old sock and strap it to his head.

At seven and a half months pregnant, I’m considering dressing as a house.

    Leah  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:36 am

  • Daughter as a flower. Son as a leopard.

    Pick me!! :)

    Bethtastic  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:46 am

  • A five year old pimp - that’s hilarious! An old lady accused me of dressing as a hooker when I was in 5th grade - I thought I was a punk rocker but had no idea what a hooker was. I couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t give me any candy!

My beautiful nieces will be some kind of character from High School Musical (gag) and a lobster, respectively. The lobster should be adorable, since she’s just now crawling…

    Tessa  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:53 am

  • Ha! Colin was superbaby for his first Halloween! Cutest costume ever!

This year, he’ll be some sort of superhero I’m sure!!!

    Erin  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:25 am

  • I’m thinking of having my 20 month old be a monkey again this year. Actually, that sock money looks pretty darn cute, might be a little hot for FL weather but as long as he is cute who cares if he passes out! (I kid, I joke.)

    Courtney L  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:34 am

  • 5 yo is Snow White, 3yo is Superman and baby is a lion. All from our dress up box!

    Lettie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:56 am

  • My daughter who is turning one a few days before Halloween is going to be a baby penguin, and I am planning on of ourse matching her in a giant penguin suit. They’re my favorite animal and she loves them too…always wanting to play with all my penguin things. Plus its a great concealer for me since I am about to have a second girl on Thanksgiving! My husband will probably be Jack Sparrow so we dont have to buy a new costume for him… and he wouldn’t be a penguin, or fit into one… lol

    Rachael  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:35 am

  • My husband has been wanting to dress up at the ipod guy from the commercials, just all black and dance around a lot, so I think I am going to make Stella be an ipod. Although those costumes are frakkin cute. I would definitely consider the whoopi cushion.

    AmyQ  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:42 am

  • The original plan was to dress my 1-year-old son, Elliott, up as E.T., but I have had NO LUCK finding an E.T. costume. So Plan B is to dress him up as his most common nickname: Jellybean!

    Sarah  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:54 am

  • I will be dressing up as Tigger and hubby is going to be Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp version).

    Tamara  |  October 1st, 2008 at 5:07 am

  • I’m going to dress up as a girl excited about being in New Orleans. Because I’m going to New Orleans for Halloween!

    marilyn  |  October 1st, 2008 at 5:19 am

  • My daughter (7) is going as Princess Leia which is cool because I dressed up as Princess Leia when I was 7 too :) Also, her best friend is going as Luke Skywalker.

My son (4) is going as the Bumblebee Transformer and his best friend is going as Optimus Prime (sp?)

    JMH  |  October 1st, 2008 at 9:51 am

  • My 4 year old is going as Sleeping Beauty. just like last year. She’s not very original. She was a pumpkin for 3 years before that (I know the math doesn’t work out, but she’s almost 5)

My MIL bought my 2 year old a Cinderella costume, but I’m giving her a choice to wear it or just keep it as a dressup outfit. I think she wants to go as Elmo.

    ktjrdn  |  October 1st, 2008 at 12:54 pm

  • My son (3) will be an adorable fluffy doggy.

My dtr (6) will be an angel-too cute!

Jen in MI  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:03 pm

  • DUDE. The Dr. Baby costume is TOO MUCH. Teh cute!!

My son wants to be “Heatblast” - an alien from the Ben 10 universe which is our whole world these days. But I have a feeling he is going to have to settle for a Power Ranger or a Storm Trooper.

And the 7… no, 8-month-old by Halloween (!)… is going to be a handed-me-down Jester girl. Economy! Unless… a gift certificate…. :) Pick me!

    Lee  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:07 pm

  • When I was a kid my mom made me the most amazing SuperPickle costume — a giant green pickle made out of felt, complete with cape. If I could, I would be SuperPickle for Halloween every year.

    Sarah  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:13 pm

  • Okay, my 2 1/2 year old is obsessed with “It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown”. OBSESSED. For the last year, anytime we see anything resembling a pumkin, he starts to go “whooooooooo” (imitating the sound the “great pumpkin” makes)

So we plan on dressing him as Charlie Brown, and our 1 1/2 year old son as Snoopy.

I also plan to respond to all questions on Halloween (including those from my husband) with “wah wah wha wu wha wa” like all the grown ups do on Peanuts.

    Ashley  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:22 pm

  • My boys will be Tigger and Pooh. I thought about dressing all three of us as dogs because these days I feel like a mother dog nursing a whole litter of pups.

    Sally  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:22 pm

  • Elvis, Spiderman, and a skunk

    VirginiaMom  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:24 pm

  • My oldest is going to be a fairy. My son is going to be Spiderman. And my twins are going to be Pooh Bear and Tigger. Thank goodness we already had those costumes so I didn’t have to think about it.

    Kristin  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:25 pm

  • My daughter had wanted to be Uniqua from the Backyardigans because we found the costume at a consignment sale, but now she’s waffling. My son is going to be a lion or a rabbit, when he decides too.

    kelli  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:42 pm

  • I miss little kids that you can dress up all cute. My boys are going as something scary and something with a bloody sword.
    Sigh.
At least my thirteen year old daughter is going as Artemis.

Swistle, that’s why I love your diary entries..because she is all dramatic and in the throes of drama and life and angst right now!

    Leeann  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:42 pm

  • I have a 6 yr old Monkey (unless she changes it to a Disney Princess, which is likely) and a 3 year old spiderman. I know that once he puts on that costume, he will never, ever take it off.

    Annie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:52 pm

  • My daughters are going to be Mary, Laura, and Carrie Ingalls for Halloween. I’m not even kidding. We have a bit of what you could call OBSESSION going on over here with Little House on the Prairie. But… what to do about shoes? My mom is making their dresses….

    Marie Green  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:52 pm

  • My 18 year old will most likely go as herself to some sort of college party that I don’t want to know about, my 15 year old is deciding if she’s too old to go (although she is only 4′9″ she thinks she can get away with it) and my 11 year old girl wants to go trick or treating dressed as a boy.
I think I have it easy this year!

    melissa R  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:55 pm

  • My little guy is going to be a cow - and he HATES the costume… must be something about the headpiece. But it’s so gosh darn CUTE I can’t even handle it. Although that sock monkey…

    Erin  |  October 1st, 2008 at 1:58 pm

  • I have a handful of grands this year,,lol,billy wants to be a ninja again,kolby is a power ranger,charlize mae is a pepper(so cute..),
rj is a hunter, and i am not quite sure about summer yet! I get bogged down in costume hunting as well! Everything is just soooooo cute..i love it..enter me please….

    Betty Rood  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:00 pm

  • My two oldest will be cute skeletons and the baby will be peas in a pod (with the umbrella stroller being the pod). And me? I will be a mom. again.

    e  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:11 pm

  • I wanted with all my heart to be Rainbow Brite for Halloween when I was 7, But my grandma said the costume was too complicated to make. I got to be Tinkerbell instead, and to this day, it’s one of my favorite costumes.

    Charese  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:12 pm

  • My daughter is *yawn* going as Cinderella. Thanks for the chance to win!

    Courtney  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:15 pm

  • My 18 month old son is wearing a Charlie Brown tshirt during the day (is lacking hair) and a dinosaur (with very cool head attachment) in the evening (for an estimated 5 seconds before he decides he doesn’t like it!). Thanks for the giveaway!

    Sarah  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:18 pm

  • 5 yo girl, 3 yo boy & 8 mo boys all dressing up as some type of super-hero. :)

    Marie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:23 pm

  • I kind of want to be an American Gladiator.

    Julianne  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:28 pm

  • My oldest is going as lightning McQueen, my middle is a race car driver and the baby is a chubby, adorable spider. It’s too cute for words!

    Devan  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:39 pm

  • We’re doing a whole nautical theme at work. I’ve narrowed it down to either Sean Connery in Hunt for Red October or Aquaman.

    Tim Taylor  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:43 pm

  • Pregnant with our first, so unfortunately don’t yet have a baby to dress up (cannot WAIT for next year, though, and am considering dressing the baby up for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas this year…). But, we will dress the dog as a bumblebee, complete with wings and antenna. SO cute….

    Nicole  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:52 pm

  • Thomas is going to be a robot, because it’s the only thing I can think of that I can make fairly easily, doesn’t need a hat thingy to make it obvious what he is, and he won’t be too hot in a heavy costume. The end of October is often still pretty warm around here, and all the costumes in stores are so fleecy and winter-esque.

    Sam  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:55 pm

  • Last year I bought a sexy devil dress that I later realized I would never actually fit into. Surprise! I fit into it this year! I may start wearing it to run errands in!

    Heather D  |  October 1st, 2008 at 2:57 pm

  • I wanted my kids to be Little Bo Peep (3 year old girl) and sheep (twin boys) but the three year old nixed it. She wanted to be a white princess!!

So she is going to be a white princess, the boys are going to be baby pirates and my husband is going to be the Man in Black from Princess Bride. Me? Nursing said twins and it’s a wonder I even put my shirt on during the day so no costume for me this year.

    Safire  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:00 pm

  • My youngest wants to be a bunny this year. My oldest wants to be something “scary.” We’ll see what we can come up with.

    Trina  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:10 pm

  • 7 year old wants to be: a vampire, or Chewbacca. Hmm…how about a Vampire Chewbacca?

    Lorraine  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:12 pm

  • My husband will be Richard Simmons (I know!), my daughter is a fairy, and I will be a carhop. I think. Maybe.

    SarahO  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:13 pm

  • I don’t have kids yet, but I’m trying to find my dog a a little jacket that says “SECURITY” across the back. As he is a 7lb pomeranian, my husband and I find the idea hilarious!

    Agrippina Maior  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:19 pm

  • Our 14 month old is going to be a chick for Halloween. She got the costume for Christmas from some friends; it is a tad big, but oh so adorable! My husband is hoping to find a chicken costume!

    Jennifer  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:27 pm

  • I am dressing my 3 yr old as snow white. My 4 year old is begging beging begging to be Optimus Prime (from transformers) so he probably will get it. If not then a firefighter.

    simply anonymom  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:28 pm

  • My three-year old DAUGHTER wants to be Spiderman. But I have a hand-me-down Sully (Monsters Inc) costume that I’m trying to talk her into wearing.

My eight-year old daughter wants to be Kattara from The Avatar.

My six-year old son is still unsure. At first he wanted to be Aang, but when I showed him the costume online, he said he didn’t like it! So, he’s still thinking about it.

I will be a medievel queen.

    Carrie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:39 pm

  • My Husband will be the Joker (new version)
    My son will be Batman
I am undecided… continue the theme with Bat Girl/Poison Ivy? (We will be going to church so I need to be somewhat conservative)

    We will see…

    J  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:51 pm

  • i’m leaning toward that awesome sock monkey costume for my little one.

    christina  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:52 pm

  • Oh! I am kilt by cuteness!

I am loving LOVING the sock monkey costume. I am not even going to show my husband this because I already decided the baby will be Bamm Bamm Rubble.

But my eldest? The jury is still out.

    Misty  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:53 pm

  • My 3yo son insists that he will be Diego, and the 2yo girl wants to be a princess. The 5 month old baby will probably wear the chicken costume we have around here somewhere. :)

    Nikki  |  October 1st, 2008 at 3:58 pm

  • My four year old wants to be Luke Skywalker but now I have to see if that Darth Vadar cutie comes in his size!

Shelly in Austin  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:01 pm

  • #1 (10, girl) - unknown, maybe a mummy like last year

    #2 (9, boy) - unknown

    #3 (6, girl) - Cinderella, for the third year…

    #4 (4, boy) - skeleton

    #5 (1, girl) - giraffe or kitty

    Me, maybe a witch.

    Lisa  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:08 pm

  • My six year old can’t decide. He might be a green Power Ranger (using last year’s costume), but he thinks it would be cool to be a policeman, too. Or an astronaut. Or, maybe, the alter-ego he created this summer …. FireBall Boy! Which consists of a white tee shirt on which he’s scrawled a giant “F” in fabric marker pens, and drawn flames all over, and a wacky orange and red tie-dye bandanna.

    I’m voting for Fireball Boy.

    Robyn  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:09 pm

  • My two daughters are going to be Disney princesses-probably Ariel and Belle but maybe Cinderella, they can’t quite decide. My son is 18 months which means I still get to decide on his costume for him. Maybe a cowboy or a Star Wars character.

    Cam  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:17 pm

  • My daughter is 3 and loves The Little Einsteins. She will be Rocket for Halloween. Rocket’s headlights even light up!

My son Dominic is 11 months and will be a greaser. Slick back hair with a big curl in front, leather jacket, white tee shirt and blue jeans!

I will be a witch, with my long black coat and pointy hat.

    Maria  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:27 pm

  • my 4month old daughter is going to be a pink bunny while my 9yr old son will be a clonetrooper.

    Erika  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:28 pm

  • My daughter will be costumed as our new kitten…black and white splotches and a pink nose.

    Tina  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:28 pm

  • My almost 4 year-old keeps changing her mind but I “think” she’s going as Minnie Mouse. Last year she was Ariel The Little Mermaid and her baby brother (always relegated to the sidekick role) was Flounder. Thankfully, we talked her out of WALL-e because she wanted the baby to be his cockroach friend! I’ve yet to hear from her what HE is going to be so, hopefully, their father and I get to pick because we want a baby YODA!

    Sally Galvin  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:29 pm

  • My son is 4, and he liked Halloween last year, but he has no interest in choosing a costume (yet). So it looks like I get one more year to play dress up with him.

My daughter is 6 months, and a friend kindly gave us a ton of used clothes, including an adorable bunny suit that I think was for Easter. But hey, instant costume!

    Julie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:35 pm

  • I want to dress up as a sexy kitten (puurrr) and my son won’t be dressing up because he is 15 and “so over Halloween”. lol

    Cortney  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:36 pm

  • I don’t know yet what my son is going to be. And it’s October 1st! OMG, does that make me a bad mother?
I imagine he’ll be some character from Star Wars, though, knowing our household.

    clarabella  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:41 pm

  • The banana costume is my favorite, I think.

My husband and I have a plan to dress up as Green Giant and Li’l Sprout (or whatever the mini-green giant is called), but I am not sure how to do that without painting myself green, which is not going to happen.

    -R-  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:48 pm

  • I think my 3-month old is going to be stuffed into the chili pepper costume my sister handed down after being used on her 3 babies…unless I find something fabulous on a clearance rack a little closer to the 31st!

    Kathy  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:50 pm

  • I’ve talked my husband into us going as Tyler Durdin and Marla from Fight Club. Mostly because the costumes will be so easy - he gets to wear a tattered, bloodied tank top and bruises I’ll apply cosmetically and I get to wear a ripped up scary dress and just not use the flat iron on my hair! Of course there’s always the chance people may think we didn’t dress up at all…

    Kim  |  October 1st, 2008 at 4:58 pm

  • The baby is going to be dressed as a monkey and my husband is going as an organ grinder. I think I am going to be a gypsy.

    EL  |  October 1st, 2008 at 5:15 pm

  • In our family, Mom, Dad, and son will be thieves, bitty daughter will be the policeman. Jury’s still out on if puppy will participate!

    Laurie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 5:15 pm

  • One will be dog, because that’s his ONLY WORD. The other will probably be batman, which is really anti-climatic because the costume is just pajamas he wears all the time anyhow. But that’s what he WANTS, so I’m taking the easy way guilt-free this time.

    erin  |  October 1st, 2008 at 5:29 pm

  • That strawberry fairy is too much, way too much, I melted a tiny bit. August is to be a bat, and Owen wants to be a praying mantis which means I have to make his costume….sigh. Suppose if I win I could buy green sweats to start with.

    Ashley  |  October 1st, 2008 at 5:47 pm

  • My 21-month-old is dressing as a pirate. ARRRR!

    Felicia  |  October 1st, 2008 at 6:07 pm

  • Mine will be dressing as a football player and cheerleader.

    Cami  |  October 1st, 2008 at 6:09 pm

  • his year my son’ll be a rooster during the day and a hamburger (he’s the meat!) at night. And then the next day he’ll dress up as an alien for his birthday party. And I also saw a turkey costume I want to get on sale post-Halloween and have him wear it (and lay on the table!) at Thanksgiving. (In my costume-crazed defense, his birthday is Halloween so we go a little overboad…)

    BRash  |  October 1st, 2008 at 6:09 pm

  • My daughter will be dressed as a lion AND a tiger (wish me luck) and I really need the amazon card to buy myself books off the ever growing wish list :)

Thanks for killing us with the cuteness of all those online costumes!!

    Melissa H  |  October 1st, 2008 at 6:14 pm

  • This year, my nearly two year old will be dressed as himself. Shockingly original, I know, but last year will be hard to top. He really looked like Harry Truman last year so the costume pretty much made itself. No one got it right away, but there was lots of “holy crap, you’re right!” after we told them.

    Tonya  |  October 1st, 2008 at 6:15 pm

  • Lets see, so far we have a Darth Vader, an Indiana Jones and a princess, still waiting to hear if the oldest has decided he is too old for dressing up!

    Laura  |  October 1st, 2008 at 6:33 pm

  • One of my bunnies will be going as a witch. The other will be going as one of the Founding Fathers (he looks like several of them…). And by “going,” I mean, “hanging out in the living room eating.”

    Portia  |  October 1st, 2008 at 6:59 pm

  • I will be dressing up as a witch for a bonfire at a friends house, it’s gonna be fun!

    Allie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 8:38 pm

  • my daughter wants to be a mouse. she’s 14. i don’t exactly know how (or why) she plans to pull that off.

the planet of janet  |  October 1st, 2008 at 8:50 pm

  • We are going to a concert in NOLA on Halloween and I don’t know if we are dressing up. I doubt if we will do full costumes- I’ll probably wear a pink rocker wig. Layla, the dog, has a skunk costume that she HATES! She hates all clothes.

    Thanks for the giveaway.

    shoeaddict  |  October 1st, 2008 at 8:56 pm

  • My daughter will be either a pink bunny or a ladybug. Her choice as we have both costumes (that I got on Craigslist). I may have to be a pumpkin. Just put an orange shirt over this 8-month preggo belly and there you go!

    Laurie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 9:07 pm

  • We are either dressing Theo up as a Hobbit since his legs and feet are so wonderfully fat, or a lion/bear since he has started growling. NOM NOM NOM!

samantha jo campen  |  October 1st, 2008 at 9:18 pm

  • My kids are tigers. As usual. Only want to be tigers. Ever. *yawn*.

    Stacie  |  October 1st, 2008 at 9:18 pm

  • My 3 yr old is going to be a bat (gracias a Old Navy). His sister, who is due to make her arrival ANY DAY already, is also going to be a itty bitty bat. Because, you know, Im sure we’ll all be going batty around here by Halloween (ha).

    lisa  |  October 1st, 2008 at 9:26 pm

  • my boys (4 & 2) want to be fireman this year but none of the stores near us have costumes! The boys love to dress up and wear hats so I figure the costumes will get lots of action after Halloween is over….I am now looking online.

    Angela  |  October 1st, 2008 at 9:40 pm

  • My two-year-old is going to be a Saint Bernard, rum pack and all. I saw it at target and couldn’t resist the rum. Hm, that didn’t sound that good.

  • My 2-year old girl is going to be a bee. Cutest costume at Marshalls complete with tulle skirt, built-in striped leotard, wings, and deely-boppers for her head. Cuter than you can imagine.
I will NOT dress up. After three years of having to wear the same dang pumpkin costume in elementary school, I think I’m permanently and tragically scarred.

Karen in AK  |  October 1st, 2008 at 11:25 pm

  • My kiddos will either be Cinderella (2 yr old…though she says “‘Rella”) and the fairy godmother (11 months old), or they will both be sweet little ladybugs. I can’t decide!!

    Danielle  |  October 1st, 2008 at 11:42 pm

  • My ten year old daughter has decided that she is too old to dress up.

My son is 5 and will be Batman. I wanted to find an old Batman costume (Blue and gray) but he fell in love with the black muscle one at Wal-Mart. Oh well.

    Elizabeth  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 12:13 am

  • My 3 yr old is going to be DJ Lance Rock from Yo Gabba Gabba (he’ll carry Lance’s signature boom box that will double as his treat bucket!), and I have NO IDEA what my 9 month old will be. Asleep, most likely.

    Caley  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 12:23 am

  • I’m going to be a cat.

    Mary  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 12:41 am

  • My husband is being Indiana Jones. SWOON!

    stephanie  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 1:18 am

  • Oooh My oldest will be some sort of scary ghost ninja and my four year old is going to be a pumpkin. They picked out those costumes themselves and I just died cause they totally match their personalities. Well in some weird way anyway. My 2 year old will be an elephant because he finds pretty much everything else scary and I already have that costume. I still dont have one for the baby but I would totally love that whoopie cushion!

    Cherish  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 1:24 am

  • Still undecided here, the 7 year old is leaning toward something with Star Wars or -god help me- Jackson or Oliver from Hanna Montana.

For the 15 month old I am thinking Yoda (if big brother goes with Star Wars) or a mini chef costume with tall hat, apron, spoon and oven mitt!

    Mary  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 2:01 am

  • a bumblebee

    Abigail  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 2:07 am

  • We have twin 1-year-olds; one will be a little bunny, one will be a ladybug. We have the costumes BUT we could sure use a gift certificate for more cute apparel.

    Christina Yoshimura  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 3:19 am

  • My mom made a pumpkin, Rainbow Brite and unicorn costume for my daughter when she was younger. I will have to rely on Amazon for my granddaughter. ;(

    G  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 3:59 am

  • My two dachshunds love dressing up for Halloween. My boy is going to be Dino from the Flintstones. I don’t have a costume for the girl yet, but I would love to get her a different type of dinosaur outfit.

Queen of the Click  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 4:07 am

  • My 3-yr-old girl is going to be a mermaid. I still need to sew it. (OMG)

Can’t decide for my 9-mth-old girl. Do I do a co-ordinating costume, like a fish or octopus or lobster? Or do I do something original for her, like a cute monster I saw at BabiesRUs? Dilemma!

    nanann  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 4:35 am

  • My 3 mos old will be a baby koala cub & I will be the mama koala. Not only because it makes great use of the beige MobyWrap, but it’s fun to say.

If I can talk him into it… hubby will be the zookeeper with eucalyptus leaves!!

And the multiple-bunch-o-bananas? BEST idea I’ve heard! I’m still laughing!

    Mamak  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 5:23 am

  • My son is going to be an elephant. Still need to buy felt and make and attach ears and a tail, but it is at least partially complete. My daughter is going to be super girl. I have most of the pieces of her costume, but just realized I need red tights and some type of gold belt. I have black cat ears and a lot of black clothing!

    Jessica  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 8:53 am

  • I’m thinking of going to class in a witch costume on Halloween, to amuse my students (and perhaps confirm what they are already saying?).

    Rah  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 11:46 am

  • My daughter (7mos) will be a lamb…the cutest lamb ever. We tried the costume on her and just could not stop laughing. The best is that she doesn’t even realize she’s in a costume so she goes about her business as if having hoofs and ears are normal. Too cute!

    Jodi  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 12:44 pm

  • My 5 yo is going to be Snow White, 2 yo is going to be a puppy (if she’ll get past her refusal to put the costume on), and my 3 month old will be Super Baby (same costume as above)!

    Heather C  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 1:20 pm

  • I miss the days of making Halloween costumes for my kids. :( They are older now but my daughter, 14, is still dressing up. She wants to go as River Tam from Firefly/Serenity. She just needs to decide which outfit to do. :)

My son is now in college but is one of those kids who makes elaborate costumes for anime conventions, so he’s very into cosplay. He’s got a costume already made for Halloween (for parties, not trick or treating) — Sol Badguy, from the Guilty Gear videogame.

    Wendi  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 2:41 pm

  • my 10 month old BBB triplets are going to be candy! because, dammit, i’m a sugar fiend, and who knows how long i’m going to be able to pick their costumes for them? so one will be smarties (must resist eating child), one will be junior mints, and one will be sugar babies. all cheap costumes from ebay.

the sock monkey, it kills me. i need three of them. desperately.

    pam  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 3:04 pm

  • My five year old wants to be Batman - AGAIN! My almost eight year old hasn’t decided yet - hence the gift certificates would come in handy!

    Katie  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 3:46 pm

  • My daughter is going to be a Jedi Padawan Learner with a pink light saber . . . daddy’s idea but it will be cute :)

    Rebecca  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 4:46 pm

  • We’re leaning towards Princess Leia for our 10 mo old. :>

    Akimbo  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 5:31 pm

  • my two year old: a “fufferfly” (butterfly)
my 12 year old shih-tzu: elvis

    Beth  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 6:46 pm

  • my3 year old and 5 year old will be hot wheels race car drivers this year, and my 21 month old is going to be a chicken.

    Michelle  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 7:03 pm

  • My 6 year old and his 8 year old twin brothers will be pirates. The 11 year old refuses to wear a costume this year.

    Margie  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 7:09 pm

  • I only waited so long to HAVE this baby so that she could be a cow for Halloween! She will be a cow until she tells me something like, “Mom. I want to be a Princess this year.” And then? We will have a discussion about originality (while shopping for a tiara).

    Pocklock  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 8:44 pm

  • My kids are obsessed with Blue of Blue’s Clues, so I got a costume on eBay for my daughter. Since there can’t be two Blues, my son will be a regular dog that matches the stuffed one he sleeps with every night. That costume was 6.95 at a thrift store–I just need to get some brown pants or leggings. Woo-hoo!

    Alison  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 9:00 pm

  • OMG! This is why I stay away from the costume section. I LOVE the banana idea… not quite enough to have another baby (or six) though.

This year, Mister Man is going to be Spiderman — I almost had him talked into a baseball player (read: cheap) but no go. And Little Miss is going to be Tinkerbell — gotta love those Disney dressup costumes, right?

My favorite costume was when my Gram made me a French clown once. I can’t think of what they’re called now…. M something.

    Michelle  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 10:14 pm

  • My very tolerant mom made me a costume out of multiple cardboard boxes, when I was 4 or 5 and decided I needed — NEEDED — to be a house for Halloween. Best costume ever.

    gwen  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 10:46 pm

  • I found a stuffed horse with sort of suspenders that my 3 yr old daughter will “wear” as if she is riding the horse–bought her a red cowgirl hat and will be cruising bargains for some boots. She is all about animals so to avoid the princess mania, this is a good animal/girl compromise!

    nancy  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 11:34 pm

  • My two yr old will be a clown this year–the question is whether he’ll let us put the makeup on.

    Andrea  |  October 2nd, 2008 at 11:55 pm

  • About 10, I wanted to be a nun, but my parents thought that our neighbours (a nun and priest who met and then left the ‘hood to wed) would be offended.

    Jenn  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 12:31 am

  • My child will be a few weeks old (hopefully 3 weeks+, cross your fingers for me) and will be dressing up as grumpy newborn who’s parents ate all the candy. Also, when I was young I wanted to be a witch. Every year. It was the cool hat.

    Amy  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 12:48 am

  • The kids I babysit haven’t decided what they’re going to be yet.

I’ll probably be a scarecrow at the local heritage interpretive house a few days before Halloween, but I’m not planning to dress up on Halloween.

    Nicole (ikkinlala)  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 2:30 am

  • When I was a kid, I dressed up as one of two things every year… A witch or a gypsy. And not because my mom made me only be those things. I was just wildly UNCREATIVE.

Plus, if I was a gypsy, I got to wear a bunch of my grandmother’s cool costume jewelry.

    jaime  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 2:37 am

  • I really want to dress my son as “The Booby-Monster” Get it? But, what does a Boogie Monster look like? And how do I make my son into a boobie?
Yeah …. see? I NEED that amazon gift card to get my kid some damn pumpkin or pea-pod costume cause I’m BAD at this creative thing.

    Stacy  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 3:40 am

  • i actually rather to not dress at all (sexy huh! lol)

please make me win i want to buy the new high school musical cd (senior year)

    thanks

    abdelrahman  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 5:14 am

  • My mom made my sister and me Madame Alexander costumes when we were small — Spain for her and Germany for me. Did she take a picture? One stinkin’ picture? Nope.

    Leslie  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 7:51 am

  • OK, have to finish reading through the comments later for more costume ideas…

2yo has been Yoda and a gorilla, not sure what he’ll be this year. We’re going to see what my mom has and what the 2yo will go for (he picked the gorilla and loved being Yoda when he was just a few months old). Our backup if my mom doesn’t have anything? Black pants and a solid color shirt - he’s a Wiggle! See my cheapness?

Not sure what the 6mos babe will be. My mom has a few. Some I WON’T use, and I don’t want to do Yoda again. I dunno. He’ll be almost 7 mos, does he REALLY need to dress up? Can’t he just wear his “My First Boo” shirt?

I was a flamenco dancer for several years, I don’t know why. I wanted to, and my mom didn’t have to buy a new costume, so she let me.

    Katie  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 2:02 pm

  • My daughter signed up to bring home the class hamster the weekend of Halloween. I have been informed that my husband agreed to help make a ghost costume for the hamster out of a tissue. Yikes!

    Stacy  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 3:54 pm

  • I’m dressing my dog up as a doctor. Yes, I’m one of THOSE people. :)

    Kristin  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 4:18 pm

  • now…after reading this post…my son is going to be DARTH VADER. that was too cool!!!

    joyce  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 7:45 pm

  • 1st Halloween for 7 month old!! My husband and I can’t wait!! We met at a Halloween party so . . .
This year we are going to be robbers and baby boy will be a bag of money!! I am making it myself.
Last year my husband was a treasure troll. A little frightening, but quite hilarious.
One year I was the big bad wolf and hubby was Little Red Riding Hood.
I love Halloween!! My favorite costume as a kid was Miss Piggy!

    Anne  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 8:34 pm

  • A BAT!!!! My 2 and a half year old will be a BAT! Love!

    Sysha  |  October 3rd, 2008 at 8:58 pm

  • I’m guardian of my 5 year old brother and we’ve decided that we’re going to wrap ourselves in tin foil and go as left overs. Yeah, that’s how we roll.

    Jaci  |  October 4th, 2008 at 1:38 am

  • We are totally dressing our newly one-year-old pug as a dinosaur. Because the costume comes with a triceratops-like tail, and there was just nothing quite so awesome.

    Kerri Anne  |  October 6th, 2008 at 7:27 pm

  • I’m going as a witch and my toddler will be Superman this year. I think his Dad wanted that costume more than he did, lol!

    callmeabookworm  |  October 14th, 2008 at 10:08 pm

  • Oops, forgot my email - callmeabookworm AT gmail DOT com

    callmeabookworm  |  October 14th, 2008 at 10:09 pm

  • Those are adorable! My son was superman (or superbaby) for his first Halloween and my daughter was Marie Kitty. Now that they are bigger they are going as Harry Potte and Hermione Granger.

    idarose  |  October 28th, 2008 at 2:58 pm

  • Oops, I lost an R. It’s Harry Potter not Potte, lol. Must be my New England accent coming through to my fingers.
