Mommy Needs a Business
with Kristen
Mommy Needs a Business is all about the joys of running your own business. You never drafted a complete business plan, you couldn't be further from your law school degree and you are now referring to your 12 years of law enforcement as your "former life." But you get to screen print tee shirts in your pajamas while pulling your toddler and preschooler out of vats of ink. What more could a mom want?

Today I did my laundry. Silly, right? Doesn’t everyone do their laundry? I don’t even want to tell you how many loads I did (8).
Things have been really hectic around here lately. Between online sales, wholesale orders and craft shows, I don’t seem to have a spare minute in my day. Of course, I have that whole parenting thing going on too. Those two kids? That baby in my belly? I’m just rolling along here.
But I think my husband is about to divorce me. Seriously. If I had to be honest, my priorities before today:
1. Work
2. Writing
3. Kids
4. Husband
5. ……
6. ……
7. Housework
Messed up, right? So I decided to make my husband happy today. I turned off the computer. I turned off the cell phone. I got the heavy-duty equipment out and I cleaned the kitchen. I maintain they are foolish to make either a bathroom or a kitchen that does not come with a floor slanted to the middle and a high-pressure hose. Wouldn’t that be awesome? Then I did all those loads of laundry (who remembered that’s the pattern on the laundry room floor).
The kids helped me do the laundry, we had lots of great conversation and at the end of the day, I didn’t really fall too far behind in my work. My husband came home and he has clean underwear. My marriage survives another day.
No, wait. You didn’t think I did something really fun on my day off, did you?

Every few months I take a “day off” to organize the papers in my room - mainly to find out how many important things fell through the cracks and are now overdue - and to discard the invitations to past events I once thought of RSVPing to. It does feel good, doesn’t it?

hahahaa! i was just complaining to my husband today that i just want a couple of days off to CLEAN and catch up with laundry! it’s frieghtening that this may now be a vacation theme. but seriously, the tumbleweed-like tuft of pet hair wafting down the hallway is a bit much…

I can ONLY imagine how difficult it must be to have a FAMILY and still be trying to do business online!
I’m single and have only my animals to care for, and I still go bonkers sometimes. Of course, I do have a 40+ hour a week full-time job too, but I know a family requires a LOT more hours and work than that.
Kudos to moms who are working from the home. This “animal mom” doesn’t know how you DO it!
