I will admit: I am totally excited to rock my first bake sale. There hasn’t been one at my girls’ school yet, but I know once they hit elementary school it’s on!
Before you even start to think about what you are going to make, I recommend you check out your pantry. There is nothing worse than starting a recipe and realizing you don’t have enough butter or flour! Don’t forget to check vanilla and eggs!
To keep better inventory, I have a little rolling cart in our pantry just for baking items. Otherwise, I have found items get trapped in the back of a cupboard. Since this time of year is prime baking season, it’s a great time to stock up your pantry. If you have a local Aldi, you can’t beat their prices on flour, sugar and other go-to items! If you don’t have space for a cart, little baskets from the Dollar Tree work well too!
You also need to make sure you have a way to wrap up your baked goodies. I think that a simple plastic wrap with a ribbon is fine, but you can get fancy if you want to. I like to get my ribbon in the $1 bins at Michaels and JoAnn Fabrics. Dollar Tree also has some baking pans, baggies and tubs to store items.
If you are thinking granola or Chex/trail mix, the zip bags in “snack” size are perfect! Stick a cute label on it and you’re good to go. When making bread, think about mini loaves or slicing the loaf into 1 ½ inch slices.
Here are a few of my favorite easy recipes. I like to bake when the girls go to bed (with a glass of wine, of course!).
