I love soup. Growing up in Russia soup was the customary start to any dinner meal and while we don’t do this now, I do make lots and lots of soups, especially in the endlessly-snowing-bitter-cold-winter. (No, I’m not a winter fan, in case you are curious.)
I have a few favorite soups I make but I am always looking for new ideas — here are a few recipes I am planning to try out:
Simply Recipes : Split pea soup . I’ve been making split pea soup in the crockpot but thinking I am going to try this for variety.
Food Network : 30-minute turkey chili . 30-minute (or less) anything is this mom’s friend.
pinch my salt : A hearty potato leek recipe . I rarely use leeks and every time I do, I say I should do it more. This seems like the perfect excuse.
Do you have a favorite winter soup recipe?

One of my favorites is simple, but good!
My mom calls it hobo stew. It consists of smoked sausage, potatoes, and green beans. Super simple to make too!
Cut smoked sausage into slices, peel and cut potatoes, and add 2 cans of green beans, about 4 tablespoons of butter (less is okay, but I love butter), and add enough water to cover. Don’t over-do it with the water, or it could make it taste too bland. Season and simmer for about 2 hours.
For my family of four I use:
2- 1lb. packages of Eckrich Smoked Sausage
6-8 medium sized potatoes, cut into chunks
2-cans green beans
4-tablespoons of butter
water
pepper, seasoned salt, onion powder to taste
It may sound boring and plain, but with the right seasoning and butter, it is soooo yummy!
