Staying on top of all the paper that comes into the home can be tough, no question about it. From school notices, to invitations, to homework, to bills, forms and mail, it just never ends! The best way I’ve found to keep from going insane is to corral all that stuff into one central location. What you need is a command center. Designate some wall space in your home in a high traffic area, add a few essential tools and rejoice when you never lose an important paper again.
1. A bulletin board or magnetic board
2. A large family calendar
3. Bins or file organizers, at least one for each child
This is my favourite all time command center.
Isn’t that beautiful? Notice all the key elements. Of course yours doesn’t have to be near as detailed or take up quite as much space as long as it serves its purpose. Train your kids to deposit important notices from school right into their “mail” slot as they come in the door each day and get into the habit of checking this space regularly before you go out the door. Having a central calendar that includes everyone’s schedule makes it easier for the entire family to know who is suppose to be where and when.
Create yourself a family “hub” today!
