You don’t have to spend a fortune to look on-trend this spring. Update your wardrobe with these ten key pieces and you’ll be good to go all season.
Buy a cardigan in one of this season’s “it” colors- turquoise, coral, yellow or fuchsia, and pair it with a contrasting color for maximum impact. I like this “Jackie” cardigan, $62 from J. Crew.
Trade in your black skirt this season for a dressy pair of black shorts and instantly update your look. These shorts are $68 from White House Black Market.
Turn a simple spring outfit into a standout with a statement necklace. There’s one out there to fit any personality, whether you want to channel Holly Golightly with heaps of pearls, or show off your quirky side with a statement necklace like this one, $58 from Anthropologie.
Tis the season of the floral dress and I’m loving this $39 version from Newport News.Pair it with a pretty yellow cardigan and you’ll be the belle of the ball.
Elongate your legs with a pair of strappy nude sandals. These Gianni Bini sandals are $89.99 at Dillards.
All pants are cropped this season and a slim-fitting pair keeps you from looking short and squat. <These Tommy Hilfiger skinny crop pants are $59.50 at Macy’s- but to achieve this look on a budget, I’ve simply been rolling up my winter skinny jeans to a cropped length.
No matter what you do, you’ve got to belt it at the waist this season to stay current. Want in on this trend without accentuating your waist? (I’m preaching to the choir here.) Belt it and then wear a longer cardigan over the outfit- You’ll have the look without the reminder to everyone that you haven’t been doing your crunches. Oh yeah- This belt is $18 at Nordstrom.
Wear a military-style utilitarian jacket over just about anything this season and you’ll instantly look cooler. I’m the proud owner of this $49.50 knit jacket from Gap and I can’t tell you how much I love it.
If you like it then you shoulda put a scarf on it… Seriously, there’s no cheaper way to give a simple t-shirt and jeans some pizazz than with a bright, sheer scarf in a hot spring color. This particular scarf is $28 from Rachel Roy.
Nautical striped shirt
All you really need to get in on this season’s nautical trend is a navy and white-striped shirt. Pair it with cropped jeans and some cute red flats and you’re a regular matey. This shirt is $54 at Bloomingdale’s.
A bright clutch or bag gives any outfit a nice pop of color. This gorgeous straw clutch is $58 at Nordstrom.
