Hillary — Focus!

Hillary Clinton is not doing herself any favors by: (1) having a campaign for a theme song; (2) choosing a theme song by Celine Dion (or as Kathy Griffin would say, “seh-LEEN DEE-on!); or, (3) by announcing her decision of that song by making a Soprano’s ending spoof.

All three of those things make me cringe, and I wonder to myself, “What WAS she thinking?”

I know some marketing guru told her she needed a song.  After all, Bill had one.

I’m not sure Hillary is my first choice for the Democratic nomination.  There are some others I have my eye on.  But if she’s wrangling to get as many women voters to go her way as possible, it’s not helping her to show off her poor acting talents and wasting time with Johnny Sack.

Hillary, we’re not going to consider voting for you because of a song.  Any song.  Especially this silly song.

We’re starving for discussion of the issues.  Real issues.  That matter to us.

All the candidates are busy courting Iowa and Florida and New Hampshire.  As I remind PunditGirl from time to time, ‘Please put on your listening ears.’  I think we’re less concerned about your iPod choices than what you have to say about the things that matter to us.

So if Hillary is going to turn off the tunes and focus on an issue she hasn’t addressed yet, what would you like to see her talk about?

  • Joanne, I have to agree with the substance of what you said above. I agree the whole “pick a song campaign” is a waste of time and energy. I’d rather hear where she stands on stem cell research and other issues that matter to me.

That said, I think the Soprano’s spoof was freakin’ hilarious. I loved it. Perhaps I’m just missing Bill. *sigh*

  • Thank you for saying this, and I have to agree. I have questions about how “electable” Hillary Clinton actually might be, which means I’m not sure she’s the one who should get the nomination, but I’ve supported her for years and I’ve always believed she’s one of the smartest women around. But I *can’t stand* Celine Dion, so my (mostly facetious) response to that song choice was “OK, now she’s definitely lost me.” And it does distract from the important stuff.

As for what she *should* be addressing, I’m holding off on thinking about that very much right now. Election season lasts much too long in this country and it wears me out, so I’m waiting a few more months till I wade in.

  • Hey, I just have to ask you what you think of Obama?

I personally like Hillary– but I don’t think she can win this election. Running a dem who can actually win is PARAMOUNT.

  • I’ve been thinking of asking this, so I will - I agree with Jen. But why don’t we think Hilary can win? Because we’re not ready for a woman? Because where she is politically? Because she supported Iraq? I’d love to hear some thoughts on this.

  • [...] I mentioned before, I am not leaning toward Hillary at the moment.  But that’s more because I question whether [...]
