We love this time of year in our house.  We spend some time outside but the cold days mean we get to spend time cuddled under a blanket with the kids watching a movie. And what is a movie without popcorn?  Before we started watching our movie we spent a few minutes in the kitchen whipping up a festive popcorn recipe.  This candy cane popcorn would be perfect as a gift, great for a recipe exchange or just for snacking on while snuggling under a blanket.

To make this popcorn you will need:

  • 1 bag of popcorn
  • White chocolate bark (5 or so bricks)
  • 5 candy canes (crushed)

Pop your popcorn according to the bag and spread it out onto a cookie sheet.  Melt your white chocolate bark in a double boiler or in the microwave until smooth.  As soon as its smooth, pour it onto the popcorn and mix it all together.  Add the crushed candy canes and let it set.  As it cools, the white chocolate bark will harden.  If you want it faster, add it to the fridge to cool quicker.  The popcorn will keep for 2 -3 days in an airtight container.

My kids loved helping me make this popcorn, but they liked eating it even more.  We had two bowls of the candy cane popcorn while watching a movie that night.  The buttery and salty popcorn and the sweetness of the candy canes were the perfect mix.  If you know someone who loves sweet and salty treats, this would make a great festive gift.  Add the popcorn to a mason jar with a ribbon and a gift tag and you are all set.

However you choose to enjoy your popcorn one thing is for sure - its a treat that is perfect for the holiday season!
