Have you joined The Working Closet Flickr pool? You really should, not only because these women are smart and funny and so very nice, but because it’s a chance to see what real women are wearing and how they are really getting it right.

What do I mean? Well, let’s see.

Style dilemma #1: Large breasts make button front shirts difficult to wear.

The usual solution:
Have the shirt tailored.

The problem: Tailoring can be costly, particularly if you are looking at having shoulders reset. For an inexpensive piece from Old Navy or Ann Taylor Loft, it might not be worth while to make this investment.

Lyssann’s solution: Layer the shirt over a camisole.

Sept 11

Why this works: Lyssann’s blouse fits her perfectly through the shoulders and body, which is important if you have a larger chest. When your shirts fit through the boobs but sag elsewhere, it will make you look big instead of curvy. And by “big” I mean “sloppy,” just so you know. This blouse shows off Lyssann’s lovely figure without swallowing it.

To compensate for the fact that the blouse will not button without straining, Lyssann has opted NOT to button it all the way up; instead, she has layered it over a form-fitting camisole in the SAME color as the blouse. This gives her a nice neckline without too much cleavage (this is work attire, after all) and without any awkward pulling or stretching.

When this look WILL NOT work:
The layered look is fine for everyday, even for the office, but is not dressy enough for an interview. If Lyssann were looking for a job, she would want to buy a blouse that fit properly through the chest (buttoned closed without pulling or gapping) and have alterations done to the shoulders and body.

Style dilemma #2: It’s hard to look chic on a Mom budget.

The usual solution: Jeans and a tee. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

EZibbits’ solution: Classic pieces that don’t cost a fortune.

9-11-07

Why this works:
It’s simple, polished, and professional, AND the entire outfit, including the jewelry and shoes and glass of wine, retails for under $200.00. Every single piece here can be worn with something else, which makes them true investment pieces, even with the low price tag. The top and jeans are incredibly versatile, and incredibly easy to wear.

Too often, I think, when we’re doing Mom Stuff (like going to a PTO meeting) we put on our Mom Clothes, which typically are NOT the nice clothes (we’re saving those for Something Else, although I’ll bet most of us don’t have any idea what that Something Else might be). Take five minutes to put on a nice outfit, something clean and crisp and polished; it could very well change your whole attitude about being the Mom.

When this look will NOT work:
If you’re trying to weasel out of being in charge of things. If you look this great, you will very likely wind up running the school auction. But I say take that chance! And then practice saying NO in the car on the way to the meeting.

Share your photos with the Flickr pool and YOU could be the next example of What’s Right Here. And don’t forget to upload your photos to The Working Closet photo pool right here at WIM, for a chance to win a Superhero necklace! Details are here. Do it today!
