First things first, let’s all give a hearty congratulations to Metalia, the official Working Closet Accessory Queen. I think she should have a plaque made for her office, yes?

Besides the fact that it was NINETY DEGREES this week, I can’t escape the myriad of magazines and catalogs showcasing some of the most beautiful outerwear options I’ve seen in recent years. I figure, maybe if I write about said coats, the weather might actually cooperate and cool down a bit. (Please hear my prayer, weather gods.)

Some of the popular outerwear trends for this winter are rich tweeds, military-inspired coats, funnel necks, patch pockets, bell sleeves, and swing coats. Lucky for us, most of these coat styles look great on all body types, not just 6 foot-tall waifs. (However, petite ladies might want to steer clear of swing coats and large bell sleeves, as they can create unflattering volume for those in the shorter set.)

All of the following finds feature one or more of the above-mentioned trends, and I’ve included a wide range of price points in hopes to make the majority of wallets pleased. Enjoy!

  • I am so excited for the new styles! the collers actually keep you warm instead of exposing your chest to the chilly air!! YAY! smart function actually wins for fall/winter fashion this year! (i mean, warm coats AND tights? heaven!)

btw, Old Navy also just added some fun and (relatively) inexpensive versions - very very cute.

  • I love coats more than anything. Just adore them.

Any suggestions for maternity coats?? Specifically, a maternity coat for a shorter woman at a reasonable price? I actually just started my search online this morning.

  • I must say, Old Navy is stepping up their game these days! I’m loving those coats. And with the weather around here, I dare not spend more than Old Navy prices on outerwear.

  • Rebecca! exactly, and the terrible manner in which i treat my winter coats and the fact that i want a new one every year or so, old navy prices are great lol (not to mention - so awesome these days!)

  • I must have that first green one. Worn by the woman in the beret. SO cute.

  • Oh the blue one from Old Navy! Adorable! Is the beret back again?

  • Sigh. I’m afraid we’ll be waiting quite a while for coat weather here in So. Cal.

  • You always have the most impeccable timing with these posts for me. The Cold And Wet has begun here in Portland (just this past weekend!) and I’m thinking a cheery coat would cheer me up nicely.

  • Sarah,
Loved the Soia & Kyo coat so I checked out their site and now I can’t choose!
Help Sarah or anyone, which would you pick the Yan, Sohie or Betina in black or grey. I can’t decide and I found a shop around the corner that is ready to order if only I could make up my mind.
    Thanks,
    Teej
