Slosheriffic Rain Boots

I harbor a pretty intense obsession with rain boots, or “wellies”. This is probably due to the fact that it NEVER rains in Southern California, and of course, the grass is always greener. I own a perfectly chic pair of J. Crew rain boots that I purchased a couple of years ago and I STILL haven’t had the chance to wear them. Not once. Are you feeling sorry for me yet? No?

However, I bet that it rains in your location (hell, it probably snows/sleets/sloshes) and I would love nothing more than to share my favorite rain boots with you.

Go forth and make me jealous with your darling rain boots!

  • Whoorl, come visit me in Portland and I’ll make all your rain boot dreams come true!

(although the jury is out on whether or not Portlanders approve of rain boots. We don’t do umbrellas, that’s for sure)

  • Oh, Sarah. You just need to come to Juneau, home of University of Alaska Southeast, dream home of Edward and Bella of Twilight happiness….

It rains ALL THE BLOODY TIME here. Not that you get to wear cutie patootie boots like that. Everyone around here is partial to their XtraTufs (http://www.xtratufboots.com/catalog.php) So feminine, that brown rubber is.

  • 1) My son has those frog boots. He’s 6.

    2) It rains more here in NoCal but I can’t imagine wearing any of these with my work wear! I just avoid wearing suede and it all seems to work out fine.

  • So does my son. He’s 2.

(That’s why I captioned those boots with “I couldn’t help but add these”.)

  • Why is it that my favorite ones are always the most expensive:)

    Nataly  |  December 5th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

  • I was just looking at these at Target. They’re got TONS, and they’re all 25 dollars. I’ve never owned a pair, but I think it would be nice in the snow and slush. And I would stop ruining the hemlines of my pants.

I am worried about being one of those obnoxious people who carries their real pair of shoes with them to change when they get to work/school though. Do people still do that?

  • Sorry Sarah, I live where it rains/snows/sleets all the time and I don’t know anyone that wears rainboots (just normal boots in the winter).

  • I was going to suggest the Tretorn Skerry boots, but you’ve beaten me to it! I live in Boston and can handle any amount of slush in those warm boots.

  • I have a really bright yellow pair of rubber boots from J. Crew. They are great for splashing around in with the kids. I have also become one of those obnoxious people who carries around my real shoes for work. What’s the point of getting nice leather dress shoes if you are going to step into a puddle with them on?

  • I’m in LA and I too am obsessed with rain boots. So obsessed that I did finally buy a pair . . . to wear under my WEDDING DRESS. (I’m getting married in Wales, so that isn’t as strange as it sounds :))

  • Sooo… here’s a silly question. I have wanted rain boots forever now b/c I am so sick of sopping wet hemlines, and they are so freaking adorable, but can I really wear these to work with my pants tucked into them? Wouldn’t that look kinda ridiculous and unprofessional? With jeans or skirts, I have no problem… there I can see it just being cute. But with work pants? I need someone else’s opinion.

  • Stephanie, I say go for it! I mean, it’s not like you are wearing that ensemble for any other reason than it’s RAINING OUTSIDE. Save those hems from drowning!

(Also, if you carefully fold over your pant bottoms, I bet they won’t look too creased afterward.)

  • This is a good post from a different website about what shoes to wear with work clothes.

    Enjoy!

  • a coworker of mine has the hunter ones and she wears skinny jeans with them so they look like regular boots only they are rain proof!

    it’s a cute look.

  • Sarah,

You’ve got to check out http://www.davrain.com for some very cool rain boots. They have real heels, original prints and many styles like cowboy, fashion, city, etc.

  • Any suggestions for cute rain weather wardrobe options? I’m from LA and going to Minneapolis for a week long conference. Weather forecast is rain, rain, rain, rain, and more rain. I have purchased my first rain boots in my life, Hunter’s. I have a couple of basic neutral trenches and some colorful ones. What else can I pull together to be fashion forward in the rain?
