I’m in the market for a laptop bag, one that’s sturdy enough to hold my MacBook safely but hip enough to look good when I’m hauling it through an airport. So what’s the best bag for the chic geek? Here are five great choices; all are substantial enough to withstand the wear and tear of travel but cool enough to go out and about during the day.

Large Rita from Queen Bee Creations, $140

Timbuk2 Classic Messenger, $105

8 Strap School Bag, $140 at U. S. E. D.

Manhattan Portage Dana’s Messenger, $78

Isis Dei Tripper, $60
That last one is my favorite — look at the lining! With the wee skulls and crossbones! So ladylike on the outside, so tough on the inside. Perfect.

This is a lovely collection! I would check out Rickshaw bags, too (http://www.rickshawbags.com/). They’re similar to Timbuk2, but with more patterns and, in some cases, more features. I haven’t bought one yet, but I know a few people who do and they love them.

These are cute, but. . .
I do not like messenger bags. The flap/dual buckle combination is annoying. IMHO, A single zipper is much easier for accessing your stuff on a plane or in the airport security line. Also, I want a bag that holds my laptop, a few notebooks or a binder, and my lunch. It has to be lightweight, too.
So far, the best bag I have is a plain old black canvas attache. You know, the super el-cheapo kind that you get for free from vendors. Sort of like this one, only even cheaper. http://www.promopeddler.com/08-66/travel-messenger-portfolio-attache-qqp382928.htm
So, where can I get one like this that is actually cute?

I like Jack Georges bags. I have two laptop bags from that company. They are like Coach used to be before they got all logo-crazy, and my laptop bags look like purses or ladylike totes, not masculine briefcases, or heaven forbid, the standard nylon-velcro laptop bag.

Hey, those are really stylish laptop bags. What I have is not as flashy as the ones in the picture, but it’s certainly one of the best laptop briefcases available these days. It’s from Briggs & Riley, and is extremely slim, which makes it look a lot more feminine than the large, black laptop cases that you see people carrying around. And it’s got so many pockets for different things that you can’t help but stay organized. It comes in a bunch of professional and also fun colors, and is worth a look!
