My children started school yesterday — can I get a hallelujah? — and now it feels like fall at my house. It’s still hot here, and we’re nowhere near ready to actually bust out the warm clothes, but I’m ready to start thinking about the move from summer to winter.
Back-to-school always gets me thinking about three things: new shoes, new bags, and new sweaters. I wore a uniform to school so that was pretty much my school shopping list for years; now that my sons wear uniforms, their lists are pretty much the same. But while they opt for tennis shoes, backpacks, and school logo sweatshirts, I want something prettier.
Here’s what I’m eying for Fall 2010.

LOFT Tipped Belted Cardigan, $49.50

Ellington Stella Tote/Pack, $199

GAP Metallic Moccasins, $49.50

I haven’t visited in forever, but your tweet caught my eye. I’m dying over skinny cargos for this fall. I think they really rev up the wardrobe and look nicer than jeans.

As I am petite I am looking at shift dresses and skirts this year instead of drowning myself in suits. I am coming to the US on holiday in a few weeks and I think I will just have to have those Gap shoes too!

I am loving the Gap flats for this fall. I want them in every color…and now i want the moccasins too!

Hey, funny: those are the main things I’M dreaming about for back-to-school too. My kids don’t go back to school (does preschool count as school? then they’re both in “school.”) for 3 more weeks, but lately I’m obsessed with:
a.) an awesome pair of dark brown, mid-calf boots on sale at Title Nine; b.) a fall version of my go-to summer day tote (which is a 4-years-old, now-faded, canvas tote from J. Crew which is discontinued but which serves me oh-so-well as a mom of two young children; and c.) two cute cardigans from Land’s End: one ruffly, one an adorably preppy pink and navy argyle with grosgrain inner button placket (adorable! love!).
So I guess I’m on track for fall, in a kinda preppy, kinda sporty, mom of 4-to-6-year-olds kind of way.

1) Gray pumps, preferrably peep toe.
2) New work pants- I have decided I hate the way all my pants fit.
3) A colored pencil skirt, specifically the J Crew Tiffany colored double serge bow pencil skirt I have been tracking on eBay. Oh Lord, momma needs it.
4) Turquoise cardigan-I never got over how great it looked when Anthony wore one on Project Runway last year!-I’m thinking Lands End Canvas for that.

I STILL love back to school shopping. I think that’s why I keep going back to school.
My favorite thing to get is a new bag. I’m looking at a nice tote, I think.

(1) J Crew Matchstick Cords in Loden
(2) Camper Nancy shoes in greenish brown leather
(3) Fitted jacket or sweater in yellow-green (any ideas?)

What’s on my shopping list? Well that bag is on my dream list for sure. But the only thing - THE ONLY THING - I’m buying for the next six months is a new pair of pregnancy jeans. Yes, girlie got knocked up again but this is the last one. If you ever get questions about pregnancy pants or jeans, I highly recommend the “secret fit” line at Motherhood and Destination maternity. They are the most comfortable thing ever and I plan to live in them for the next half year (boo hoo).
Lovely picks, as usual.

LOVE those flats. I need them for teaching (first paycheck coming in September!)

I ordered the Ellington convertible tote on your recommendation. It’s my new diaper bag and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I realized that I also already owned another Ellington bag and it’s also one of my favorites so you can never go wrong here!
Btw, it was a pleasure to meet you in person at BlogHer!

1. A new every-day bag (all picked out, just waiting for a sale)
2. A tailored leather jacket
3. A perfect pair of work pants, which fit like my favorite skinny jeans

Wow, I love that bag.
I always get excited about buying new fall clothes. Probably from my childhood, when the only time all year I’d get new clothes and a pair of shoes would be the JCPenney back to school sale. It was so exciting to see those new items hanging in my tiny closet just waiting for me to wear them to school. I usually had my first day of school outfit picked out weeks ahead.
Dang, now I want to buy a pair of mary janes!
