I hate winter.
There, now you know. And please, don’t ask me how I could hate the cold if I grew up in the very cold part of Russia. Yes, the Boston winter is more like spring in St. Petersburg, where I lived until I was thirteen, but it’s still cold, it’s windy, and I am so sick of it. I dread it starting in September and by this time in mid-February I get outright bitter about the bitter cold. (Like my use of bitter there?)
And because I hate being cold so much I do my best to stay warm. I have portable heaters in both my work and home office, as well as one on my side of the bed. (I am married to someone who is hot when it’s 65 degrees in the house, which makes me think that’s one of things a couple should discuss before they get married. Who cares about religious preferences, political affiliations, of how many kids to have — “what temperature are we going to keep our house at?” is a much more critical issue.) I wear tons of layers and have been known to wear those fingerless gloves while working. I drink tons of tea for which my teeth stains are good evidence. And boy, you should see me when I am going outside — I am the walking Lands End cold weather gear catalogue, plus some.
But before you leave this post because you’re now really bored reading about how cold I am, here’s what’s in it for you: An absolutely awesome heated vest from Polartec, which you get to enter to win. When we got this vest to test out (over at my other gig at Daily Grommet), you bet I was willing to fight if I didn’t get to do it. And oh, did I ever. I wore it for days, making sure that the battery charger was always close by, and I was one happy camper. It’s kind of like having a heated car seat that comes with you when you’re not in your car. (Not that I have a heated car seat but my parents do and it’s heaven.)
So since I liked it so much I had to snag a brand new one so we could give it away right here, on Work It, Mom!. To enter, just check out this great 2-minute video about it on DailyGrommet.com and come back to our contest page to leave a comment about why you really really really want it. Do your fingers turn white while you’re standing around on the playground watching your kids run around? Would you make early spring walks more pleasant because you’re not freezing to the core? Tell us and enter to win!
