Compare and Despair

“Don’t compare yourself to another; their journey is different than yours.”
I read the quote above in one of those inspirational PowerPoint presentations that get passed around and it really resonated with me. How often do we look at someone else and think how easy they have it. Whether it be they have more money or a better job or a better relationship, we are always sizing ourselves up with others. And that comparing usually leaves us the loser. I remember when I was little my mom said to me, there will always be someone smarter, faster, prettier or funnier than you are. But no one will ever be the combination you are, remember that. And I have. Most of the time.
But what I like about the quote above is that it shows that while someone may have something easy in their life right now, they will have other experiences in their lives that are really hard. That’s where their learning and growth will come. But it is different for you. It is different for all of us. Whatever you are going through right now, this is your journey. These are your lessons to learn. So the next time you start sizing up your “competition”, remember, their journey is different than yours.
