You don't need to be everything to everybody, but you must be everything to your children.

  • It's true when your children are very young. I don't think it's true as they get older - and I don't regret this. It's as it should be. They get older, their worlds get bigger. My oldest is 22 now, and I'm still a very significant part of her life, but I'm not "everything" to her, and never could be -- any more than my own mother is everything to me.

    But for those first few years? It's nice to be someone's everything!
