Baby it's cold outside

I had to bring the cats (2) to the vet this afternoon. Fortunately I

didn't have to gently wake the very tired baby. She woke on her own

at least an hour too soon screaming and crying and could barely

recover. The appointment, not even 3 miles away, was for 3. Thank

goodness I started getting ready at 2 otherwise we would have missed

it completely. I had conveniently forgotten how much longer it takes

to get out of the house when you've got two other people to

wrangle and bundle and threaten, um, I mean, cajole gently. The cats did great

but the whole office was laughing when I walked in carrying a carrier

in each hand, baby (who's almost 19 months) in the sling and Big Girl holding onto my back pocket. I'm grateful it wasn't colder or windier or raining or

snowing or...I do love this weather but these outings are trying.

  • HAHA, let me clarify: I drove! I certainly wouldn't have walked that far lugging that much w/out having started out at noon. And as for carrying her in the sling - no problem. While it's not super comfy it's a lot easier than holding her and, in the sling, I can swing her around to my back. Plus I work hard to keep my back, especially lower, in shape so I don't have issues.

  • We don't have cats, but I've had to do soemthing similar with a black lab and several cranky children... I feel for you!

  • I've lugged a cat to the vet. Surprising how a 5-pound animal can get SOOoooo very heavy over a mere half-mile walk.

I've taken two cats and five toddlers to the vet, in fact, but when I do that? I bring my youngest (who's 14), because it can NOT be done by one woman.

The picture you paint is so familiar: it's the child trailing from the back pocket that made me laugh out loud. Been there, done that! You just whatever handles you have! I've sometimes thought of tying ribbons to my belt for them to hold on to!
