opportunity knocks - but still as a volunteer for now

You know what they say when Opportunity Knocks right? To take the chance, to just let your heart be your guide and just take it. But, what if the opportunity is absolutely fantastic yet, there is NO money involved yet...will there be money involved eventually? Sure? Maybe? But, I think I want to add this to my resume...me....writing...Wait...didn't I say that here like 2 years ago when Lylah interviewed me? Writing about music? Now it's possibly coming true? Wow...never did I think that was going to happen...but I still want to be paid eventually and move on from just.being.the.temp.forever.
Writers any tips? I know this is a start and a great one at that, but what do I need to know, what do I say/write in such a way that grabs people's attention? Grammar is not my strong suit, and I think I have a thesaurus somewhere around and a Writers Box Kit to do fictional writing but not articles...although I have been blogging for a while now...is it the same though? Yes, but not really right?
I'm funny, so I guess I can use that as my strength until I get somewhat up there for writers. I mean this isn't for a National Paper or even for a printed paper, yet I will still have the opportunity to write...I also have some knowledge now of the subject (sure, who'd a thunk a jazz flutist would be writing about Renaissance Faire/Festival related stuff...not ME).
Help? Thanks ladies
