What's wrong with me!

My daughter does not sleep in. Like ever. Except today - instead of being up at 7am, like usual, it's 8:30 and she is asleep. She's been sick so this is probably her catching up, which is great.

But what is not great is that I am right here, working, up, awake, not sleeping.

What is wrong with me!

It's a snow blizzard outside (don't get me started on that!), we got in late last night (a rare outing after my dad came to babysit), I had little sleep this week as I helped my daughter through nights of coughing, and we don't have immediate plans to go anywhere. Why am I up?

It's a mother's curse, the pre-programmed clock, as I call it - but I know some of you are reading this and saying "you crazy girl!"

I am, I know - I feel like such a dud right now!

  • It is hard to sleep when they are sleeping. Especially when you know you can get stuff done.

  • My oldest has never been a napper and sometimes...argh. But on those rare occasions when she's slept in or fallen asleep during quiet time I tend to smile and sigh a lot! 8:30 would be huge and if we could time it so everyone slept in...ohhh, I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

  • Me, I'd be poking her to make sure she's still alive. My daughter also never sleeps in. And when I'm up, I'm up, so I just get stuff done instead of trying to sleep. And I'd probably have a hard time getting to sleep, thinking she'd be up any minute.

  • My older son is the same way. He has never slept in a day in his life! He did not get that gene from me.

At least you had a little quiet time before she woke up - that's always something lacking in a busy mom's life.

  • That stupid Mommy Clock. I could sleep in (if I were physically capable, which it seems I'm not), because it's normal for my kids to do so. BUT! Now that my kids are teens, it wakes me after I've gone to bed. I kid you not: five minutes after a teen was SUPPOSED to be home, but isn't, I'm awake, and I don't go back to sleep until they're home.

So you'll get no criticism here.

  • Happens to me alllll the time! You're not crazy. But try to give yourself permission to relax -- have a cup of something hot and yummy, and watch the snow make everything look gorgeous.

  • No, I'm not saying that...b/c it's happened to me. BTDT! And the feeling of a lost opportunity in extra zzz's...argh, that's frustrating! I can relate. - Paula.
