Post-Christmas shopping hysteria

People are insane when it comes to getting a deal. I wonder if I would feel differently if I didn't work in retail. There was a line of about 30 customers in the cold outside my store this morning before we opened at 10am. The second we unlocked our doors, they literally ran to the display of holiday tchotchkes, and started loading their baskets full of ornaments, tree skirts, wrapping paper, and generally anything red and/or glittery. Within 15 minutes, there were over 100 people in the store snapping up whatever was on sale. I just can't imagine spending my morning being jostled amidst a crowd of people, searching for an elusive Shimmer Stripe 11x23" pillow cover for $11.95. Oh well... I guess it's what keeps our economy going in tough times.

  • This really amazes me.... I can't stand shopping, especially on a peaceful morning when i could be drinking latte and reading a newspaper! :)

  • Yoiks. Sounds like a rough day. I will admit I can be tempted by a good deal, but I don't NEED christmas stuff to clutter up my life until next year.

  • You couldn't pay me to set foot in a store the day before, of, or after Christmas (or Thanksgiving, for that matter)! Too much chaos!
