Take Time and Be Still

Have you ever taken the time to simply be still? Sounds odd and some may have no idea what is meant by the saying ~ 'Be Still'. However, it is something we must all do at some time in our life and preferably more than once. Now you may be saying to yourself at this moment, that you don't have time to be still and I completely understand, but that is precisely the reason you must find the time. Not only is it essential for your health, and well being but being still helps your entire mindset. Imagine a vehicle constantly moving with no time to recover. This can be applied to anything, be it an animal or machine, so why do we think it doesn't apply to humans? I can't stress enough the importance of being still. Being the observer that I am, it's not difficult to see that many don't take the time to simply relax and enjoy life.
Our days are numbered so why not take the time to enjoy each day to the fullest. One thing I noticed was when I was going through my mom's items after she passed, she had items with tags and many items that were unused. Those items were to be used in her 'dream house'. Unfortunately she passed before living in her 'dream house' and that struck a cord in me. From that day forward, the decision was made to use and enjoy our dishes, towels and anything else that is too nice for everyday use. I do however have some glasses saved for special occasions, so I guess some habits are hard to break but you will not find items with tags or unused in my home. She thought that she could wait to 'be still' not knowing that time was slipping beyond her control.
Taking time to be still is not as difficult as it sounds. Consider the time you are in the shower, driving to work, or having your cup of coffee, or simply the time before getting out of bed to truly acknowledge all the goodness you have in your life. Stop comparing what others have and what you don't have but concentrate on what you have been blessed with; especially during this time of year. It's easy to be depressed but don't allow it. Instead as I mentioned, focus on all you have. Be it a healthy and loving family, roof over your head, running water, food to eat, or clothing to wear. Bringing it back to the basics will help you realize and teach your family the beauty in appreciation and certainly enjoying every moment.
