So we decided to go away for this long weekend.... My son is 2 months old and we took him on a plane for a trip. We were a bit nervous, we weren't sure how he was going to handle flying รข?? it was his first trip. It all worked out great and he slept for the most of the flt. It's a great accomplishment for us since we love to travel and going away is really important for us! We held him in our arms the entire flt. After a while it gets hard. I've noticed a couple of people on the plane had some sort of a travel pillow that they put on their lap and put their child on that pillow. Does anybody know where i can buy such pillow???

  • BRAVO - I am a firm believer in taking my children on vacation WITH me. I know there is a harness available for those able to sit up check out www.flyingwithkids.com
First time we flew w/JRT was to Europe, age 2. We travel to visit family about every 2 years. My #1 suggestion is: buy a portable dvd player, take movies & headphones - airline movies are NOT chosen for family ratings! We also do uno and coloring. I always buy 1 or 2 special new toys - small lego or such Electronic scrabble or if your child has a nintendo this is definitely a time for unlimited access.
We also have a special blanket friend just for traveling - has a head w/ small blaket attached - you don't want to lose "the favorite blankie."
If traveling Europe - Lutfansa is excellent for family friendly

  • my daugther still uses the travel pillow i bought at bed, bath... when i was pregnant. It was jut the right size to prop my heavy belly. We have flown a lot with one child and a few times now with two. with the one we found two things really helpful. first, we fold up the arm between our seats and laid her across both our laps. with a small pillow and blankets she rested fine. Also we fly southwest when possible, as the attendants have always been very helpful and kind with the babies, even once walking our child up and down the aisle to get her to sleep!

  • Very Brave! My children are 2 and 5 and we still have not tried a flight. In fact when my daughter was 6 months old we drove for three days from AZ to WI. They were 12 hour days and she would only sleep for 1/2 hour at a time for a total of 1 1/2 hours. Very long days for us -I think we should have tried flying.

  • We took our plane ride with our son when he was about 5 months old. When he was baby like that, it was no problem, but when he got to be about 1, did we have a rough time keeping him in his seat.

Take your baby carrier and store it in the overhead, some airlines will let you use unused seat for his carseat.

  • Congrats: definitely a milestone to travel with the little one. Not sure about the pillow, but you should check out the Kelty Kids stroller and backpack. We went home for Christmas and my hubby carried our son on his back, which freed up our hands.
