3 (more) things...

1.) I'm ambidextrous, but I stopped working on writing with my left hand when I was in the 2nd grade, so my handwriting with that hand looks like one of my kids' did it.

2.) My nickname when I was a kid was Dosibai, which is Gujarathi for "Little grandmother" (loosely translated). Because I was mothering people practically before I could walk.

3.) I've collected miniature perfume bottles and perfume samples since I was 9 years old -- more than 25 years now. But I rarely, if ever, wear perfume, because I have super-smell-o-vision. You know how, when you're pregnant, everything just smells...well... MORE? That's super-smell-o-vision, except I have it all the time.

  • Hi!

Partyof5: Gujarathi is the language spoken in the state of Gujarat, in India -- it's where Bombay is (well, now it's called Mumbai, but you know what I mean). My mom is from India... she's a Parsi, with roots in Persia, but the Parsi people adopted Gujarathi as their language when they fled to India from Persia around the time of Alexander the Great (whom they call Alexander the Accursed).

Jacqueline: Would you believe that it took me DAYS to figure out what to write down? :)

Kate: When I was little, I got "ambidextrous" and "amphibeous" mixed up and would get very upset, thinking that people had mistaken me for a frog. I totally hear you on the laundry aisles thing, too!

tkd_mama: My husband thought I was crazy recently because I told him, while driving, that I was sure I could smell cigarette smoke. I really could. Turned out someone TWO CARS AHEAD of us had lit up and rolled down their window.

Mandy: I'm pretty sure we're related, somehow! I can deal with some floral scents, but things like musk make me want to wash my nose out with soap, except that would probably feel even worse!

  • Great entry! I love learning little tid bits about people. What country does Gujarathi originate from? I am fascinated with overseas travel and different cultures.

  • Interesting facts about you. I love to learn things about others even though I have trouble giving information sometimes.

  • haha i am ambidextrous as well! but i always forget about it and that it's 'interesting'! and my left hand handwriting is the same - child like but at least I CAN do it if needed!

i do not miss super-smell-o-vision from pregnancy! was impossible to walk down the laundry aisles in the grocery/target stores because the smell would make my eyes water! but then i suppose it's good when there are lots of good smells around :)

  • I've noticed my sense of smell has become super-sensitive in the last year or so. (I'm guessing it's related to my perimenopause.) Might work for dogs, but I'm not sure if *I* like it this way!

I didn't recognize the language Gujarathi when I saw it in your post, so I googled it. Cool. Is your family from the Gujarat province originally, or from one of the other Gujarathi populations throughout the world? - Paula.

  • Lylah - we have 2 and 3 in common. Most often I can't stand perfume because it burns my nose. But there are a couple I love. And I was called Little Mother. hee hee
