Family Ritual

Growing up in an agriculture family, there are many rituals that we have.  Most of them revolve around the ranch and cattle.  While most people are going to the lake or having big family BBQ's during Memorial Day or Labor Day weekend, my family is working cattle.  In the spring it is banding and branding, and in the fall it is vaccinating and getting calves ready to ship to the sale.  These weekends just happen to be the only times that all of us can get off from work, and we all have the time to get the work done.  Even though we spend the majority of the time working, it is still a great way for us to get together and we all are working towards a common goal and doing something that we love.  The ranch has played a big role in our family for three generations and it is the root of our family tree.

  • I think having really long, generations long, traditions is so neat! Thanks for sharing!

  • Even though I have never done anything remotely like this, I can understand how this would help a family bond. Growing up, I remember that some of the best time spent together was working.
