Has anyone sucessfully gone from a "go into work" job to working at home 40 hours/week without starting your own business?  Did you take a big paycut?  Thanks!

  • Thanks for your suggestions. I am still trying to make parenthood work for us and still be able to provide for her.

  • That scenario in which a person would switch from a regular job to working from home without opening his/her own business is rather the exception than the rule.
From the way you've formulated your questions I understand that your income depends greatly on your paycheck (which is the case with most people). In this situation, following mamajama's advise is best.
One thing to keep in mind though: start ups take energy and money and you have to be prepared for that. On the flip side, it is sooo rewarding to make that work!

    Good luck with everything!

  • If you don't want to start your own business, you may or may not take a big paycut. There are so many variables and income levels vary hugely for work-at-home-moms. It depends on your field, experience, motivation, etc etc. Most people probably deal with a big pay cut at least in the beginning. Also, you have to deal with lack of benefits, which is a serious downside in the long-term. You have to weigh your options.

Yes, you can definitely go into a 40hr/wk job, but it depends, again, on your situation and the field you're in.

  • Most people I know either started their own businesses or started out working from home part time. That's what I'm doing.
