My daughters first cooking catastrophe.
Well I just calmed my daughter down, wow she was really having a breakdown.
Let me paint this for you... she is 15 almost 16, she met this very charming 17 year old (now 18) last summer at a church retreat. They talk on the phone and email constantly. They only see each other once about once a month, he lives 4 hours away.
Well today was his birthday and Heather wanted to make him this fantastic dinner. She called his mom for his favorite dinner and cake and she planned. Brads favorite dinner turned out to be Tater Tot Casserole, and Black Forrest Cake. Heather spent all day today decorating, baking and cooking. She had bought all her ingredients and presents days ago, she really had this organized.
I offered many times today to help only to be chased out of my kitchen, (funny how that never happens in the laundryroom). He arrived and we gave them the diningroom for their "celebration" we weren't invited to dinner. After dinner they took the horses out and then Brad made his trip home.
I was dying to hear the details. Heather was radiant, she was full of pride, they had a wonderful dinner, he took cake home to his mom, he loved her presents, he even brought her a gift. I was overcome with joy for my oldest daughter.
Well.. then it happened, dad wanted some of that TaterTot Casserole. He and her brother Josh made their plates, dad smiling took a huge bite, the smile disappeared. Heather thought he was kidding, I thought he was kidding, he was not kidding. Heather doesn't eat meat, she hasn't for 2 years. She did not have the TaterTot Casserole. I quickly took a bite, wow that is bad. What happened? Hysterically Heather went through all the steps. Then I realized what had happened.
Having 7 children I have learned how to cut a corner here and there, one of those being to reuse plastic containers, like sour cream containers. I had done that very thing that morning, I had made vanilla pudding and put it in a sour cream container. Heather used that instead of the sour cream she had purchased.
Heather was really hysterical, she said he even had seconds, well I tried to calm her down, "maybe he doesn't have tastebuds". "He doesn't anymore" Josh piped in. Brothers are so great at helping.
Heather called him, after their call she filled us in. He hated it, but loved it because she had went through all the trouble of putting on this celebration for him. He didn't want to tell her and figured she would never know because she doesn't eat meat. She explaned what happened they had a laugh.
