Talking to Myself

Personal Question of the Day:

How do I assert myself without being a b*tch?

Personal Answer(s) to Self:

1) Try to wait until the worst of the PMS is over.

2) Keep your emotions at bay - they may be relevant but hardly useful for a rational (sic) discussion.

3) Don't assume anyone's deliberately trying to hurt your feelings - they just may be that insensitive in general.

That's all I got so far.

  • Diane - Something I need to remind myself of often.

MaryP - Actually, I'm sure it does depend on how I define bitch and sadly as I sit here, I'm drawing a blank.

I certainly don't think anyone who asserts themselves is necessarily a bitch.

I guess what I meant was that it's one of those questions I ask myself when I think about bringing up problems in a relationship - of any kind.

Perhaps I should just try asserting myself and see if anyone "labels" me such before I go worrying about it.

  • I wonder if it depends on how you define bitch? What's bitchy, by your standards?

  • Definitely agreeing with your third point - I think it's really useful to realize that most people aren't out to get you...they're just being who they are, warts and all. :)
