That I have found a business where I can help others!

  • I put myself through college, through my masters and bachelors degree, and I worked as a private consultant for years. I've had a couple of businesses before, one in archival photography and historic preservation studies. I went to work (and was working) in a mostly environmental planning feild prior to starting my own business.

Building a referral business allows me to give back to others, financially, since I cannot personally employ all these people.

Having your own business, no matter what it is, teaches you how much control you can have over your own finanacial future...instead of looking to some other entity for a paycheck.

I find that a lot of people look down on people who start home businesses as people "just trying to sell something." or "just trying to make a buck off of friends and neighbors." (I do not think that is the case with you carmelsugarberry38)

The truth is that if you think about it, no one would have a job if some good or service was not exchanged for money. If you work outside the home, you are involved in sales somehow on some level even if it is customer service as a secretary, because if cash does not come in for some good or service, you would not get paid.

Not realizing this truth is kinda like eating a chicken breast that you bought from the grocery store, but saying you could never intentionally bring harm another animal.

  • Well my answer I admit is a bit unorthodox as I don't have a home business and I'm currently not working in a traditional out-of-home job.

But, I have to admit I'm truly proud of getting my undergraduate degree as this has proven to be a great business investment that will pay off for me as I explore new career options. I know it will work to my advantage when I return to school to obtain my advanced degrees. I won't have to start all over again.

Also, I believe learning how to manage my finances is a great business attribute that benefits my family every day. Finances was never my forte, so it was a benefit to make myself learn how to invest, balance and budget wisely. I feel like the CFO of our family corporation.
