My Big Fat Health Care Idea!

It's not that I have a problem with passionate people who rally during political conventions with signs that say "we want something changed". It's that I think it's more productive to work within the limits in which we live.

We live in a free world where you can pretty much accomplish anything that you want to- nobody said it was going to be easy- but just look at all that we are capable of now that we have the internet. Some people feel it has made us more disconnected with one another. I believe that we've never been so connected in the history of the human race. I am truly proud to see what people are accomplishing together simply by finding others with similar goals and passions.

Now, I don't mean to get on my soap box, here (difficult if you are me, because I do love to pound a podium now and then) but I've been very concerned about this issue concerning universal health care. I've researched all sides, and I do see validity in each viewpoint. With an open mind, I've come to my own theory regarding the issue. While I would love to have Universal Health Care, I believe that our system is so far "broken" that implementing something like this wouldn't work for us any longer.

As a self- employed parent, this issue concerns me because if my husband were to lose his corporate job, we'd be in big big trouble. I don't have any enourmous health issues, but I've had a few "irregular" pap smears and a bit of "help" when it came time to conceive our son. Due to those past medical histories, I'd be deemed a risk and therefore would not qualify for private coverage. You see, I believe that the reason more Americans aren't choosing to work for themselves rather than a large corporation is solely because they don't want to lose their group health plans. No one can afford to be unprotected these days, and with private insurance companies denying those that have had so much as a cold in the past 5 years, well, why even risk that? In fact, I will go so far as to say that I think IF Universal Health Care did ever get implemented into our system, that so many corporate workers would see it as the excuse they've been waiting for to leave their jobs and start working for themselves.
